Well,the first one is good considering you have done it after a long time.Although you have done heaps better than before,I guess you shall have your touch back when you start making em regularly.You could've added some adjustments,but it's fine for now.
Although I still don't understand what was the need of the second version?

Decent work. Keep trying, and you will get better at it.
Its not all that easy to start making gfx after a long lapse of time, but as you'll spend time with it, there will be surely some improvement.

I like it, the circle textures really gave a nice touch to the whole avatar it self, but as Rizwan pointed out the text didn't match the quality of the avatar.
