Do you think DRS will become mandatory?

The ICC is going to "recommend" DRS be mandatory for all series, do you think this will go through or will somehow the selfish BCCI derail this motion?

So it isn't perfect, DRS is better than no DRS in helping get to the right decisions as often as possible

BBC Sport - DRS in cricket: 'Mandatory' system supported by ICC

One key line from the above link does worry me, if the ICC want it mandatory then perhaps they should provide the equipment as well as umpires and the 'international cricket community' share both the benefits and the costs.

"DRS would be used in all Test matches and one-day internationals, provided host countries can afford the equipment"

Yes, eventually. The problem I feel is that none of the boards in support of the UDRS are willing to back it to the fullest, got to stick up to the bully, eventually.

Christ sake. As much as I bemoan the BCCI and their ridiculous ways. The ICC does not help itself. Spineless and pathetic.

I don't understand why it wasn't put to a vote.

----------

update: because no board or executive was willing to put it to a vote.

I want BCCI to just accept the technology.

I think BCCI are not approving it because Indian team did have some bad experience of this technology. First in Sri Lanka series and then Dravid incident in England. Still I am not sure that they are pulling out because they don't trust the technology or there is something fishy going on behind the doors.

And I think if BCCI opposes it then every other board should vote against BCCI and say that we want DRS in game. If they don't do anything then obviously our board will bully them. If one or two board does it, BCCI can grind them but if all the country boards oppose to BCCI then they will be forced to change their decision I guess.

There is just no reason for it not to be. I am still convinced the BCCI is doing something similar to what they did with 20-20 cricket and the subsequent IPL. That is reject it initially. Figure out how they can make money from it. Then attempt to monopolise it. They'll back it when they can figure out a way to make money from it.

Sponsors will do then.

Yep, the moment a company that's tied to some board member of the BCCI creates a passable hawkeye or hotspot tech they'll push it through with all the branding on sponsorship they want.

If the question is "will the DRS become mandatory?" (ie. as in the thread title), the answer is yes. If the question (as in the OP) is "will this or that ICC gabfest be instrumental in bringing that about?", then the answer is a definitive: "Probably not" :rolleyes

No. The Indians have shown in the past their dislike for the UDRS. Now what we need to understand is the ICC really stands for the Indian Cricket Council, you ask why? Here it is, obviously the Indians are paying of the heads of the other boards, I doubt they can buy the ECB or CA but with the support of boards like WICB and others the BCCI runs the ICC. The solution is plain and simple, the national goverment of each territory needs to step in and take control of their national boards, thereby having enough members to veto the BCCI control, then the new ICC make a decision to ban India from all international cricket for five years or more. This may be the only solution, because as it is test cricket is close to extinction and ODI has just been added to the endangered list.

I hate BCCI as much but that's just crossing the line a bit.

I know it sounds harsh but this may be the only solution. The rate at which the ICC is failing cricket is astonishing.
