Don Bradman Cricket 14 - first impressions thread

That would be a nice touch. Seeing a fast bowler knock the stumps back or to send a stump cartwheeling a la BLIC 2005 would be fun to watch. Currently the only time stumps come out of the ground are when you get a direct hit while fielding. No matter how fast you bowl, you barely knock the bails over when the ball hits the stumps.

I bowled someone and uprooted a stump. Only did it once but it did happen.

I find the issue is with bowling someone when bowling a bit fuller. It's simple enough to get the AI to miss one of their flamboyant shots bowling a good line and length (while they try to slap it over mid off), but they seem far more solid on fuller lengths in my experience. As it takes much better bowling to bowl them with a fuller delivery, and uprooting the stumps is only particularly likely hitting them lower than the top of the stumps, it makes sense that it's not something that would happen that often for many people so far.

We know the physics engine is there for it, thanks to the AI mauling the stumps every single ball pre patch one, so the issue is probably more an issue of actually bowling players in a way that would allow for the stumps to be uprooted.

It is a little strange that fielders regularly knock the stumps out when throwing the ball in from the boundary but the bowler can't do it from 22 yards ;)

I'm hoping the game is balanced so that I can play a test match properly. Bowling out teams for 100+ then being bowled out for the same says a lot about the difficulty (or my ability)

But it's a rarity given the fact that fielders uproot the stumps every other throw. Also, not just knocking over the stumps, it would be good to see stumps pushed back. Right now the bails fall down and stumps generally remain in the same spot.

Will say bowling a 90+mph inswinger as Mitchell Starc only to see the stump move half an inch is a bit disheartening. Sort it out @Ross

The only thing that annoys me is that It's near impossible to uproot the stumps when bowling but I do it about every fourth or fifth throw.

There is certain line length from which stumps can be uprooted. Bowling marker in nets proves that. But it should be more frequent.

Its amazing how quickly the match can change within moments in this game if you are not concentrating or try to get too fancy with your shots. I have had numerous games (both online and offline....but mostly online :p) where chasing a modest score I get off to an awesome start and the match is totally in my pocket, but suddenly when I lose my concentration and start going for big hits or try to do some cool stuff (:noway) I lose 2-3 quick wickets and the whole game changes! I am not able to time the deliveries all that good fearing the loss of another wicket, my shots start going straight to the fielders and I misread the line of the delivery more often (I think this is what Ross meant when he said that momentum plays a big role in the game)!! What could have been easy wins suddenly get converted into hard fought wins! This is the beauty of this game. People are concentrating too much on the petty issues......the game is still in a totally different league! Online play, even with its issues, is really really really fun to play.

Here is an example of a match I played online in a tournament going on at IVG...as you can see, I had a really good start and should have won the match easily, however it turned out to be a really close match in the end (I was playing as Mumbai Indians):

Not a bug but something I feel is missing is more information about the batsman / bowler.

For example, if I'm bowling I have no idea what the batsmans strengths and weaknesses are. Strong off front foot / back foot? Likes to cut and pull? Strong off his legs but rubbish outside off? To be me this detracts from the bowling side of the game because every batsman is then just approached the same way and tactics don't apply.

My solution would be to incorporate this information into the confidence "screen". There is absolutely no reason why the top 3 skills for the player couldn't be displayed below their confidence / fatigue bars.

Just show the skill name and the bar with the green blocks. The space is there.

Someone needs to press down on the right analogue stick.

That still doesnt give you all the stats. It just gives you the one strongest area for the batsman (I think...please correct me if Im wrong)!
