Few may remember the short and by many peoples standards unsuccessful domestic career of Victorian all-rounder Jesse Slatter. The youngster debuted last season as a 16 year old against the Western Warriors after the late omission of Nick Jewell. Slatter or ?Slats? as he was known to his teammates went on the score 55 from 72 balls and had many people talking. Unfortunately he struggled from then on as an all rounder until injury threatened to end his career at the Victorian Bushrangers for good.
Slatter?s career lasted just a modest 4 First-Class games and 6 Limited Overs matches in what was a top of the table Victorian Bushrangers outfit that looked like hot things to win both the Pura Cup and ING Cup. Unfortunately the young all rounder was delivered the bad news in his hospital bed following a horrific accident that few people dear to speak of. Astoundingly through tough rehab and determination to step onto the cricket field again Slats is back for the upcoming 2006/2007 season.
Slatter began his comeback 2 weeks ago playing for Melbourne University in grade cricket making 33 and 21 respectively and taking figures of 2/42 and 0/19.
"It was tough sitting there not knowing if I could ever make it back to playing for Victoria? said Slatter from his home in Melbourne. ?I?ve been working really hard in the nets and at training but I haven?t had any match experience in a long time. We?ll have to wait and see how the body handles the return to cricket.?
When quizzed on his injured knee Slatter answered ?It?s almost back to 100% and im feeling really great. My mobility is back to what it used to be. Im really looking forward to getting out onto the MCG again and playing some good cricket.? After a full years recovery it is uncertain whether Slatter will be able to make a greater impact on the domestic ranks this year but one this is for sure. That he will give it a red-hot go.
YES! My favourite story is back! I loved reading your story all the way through the first time, best part was when you spilt coke over the coach/plane driver!
