Australian Summer Season Launch 2006/2007

This year Cricket Australia have decided to celebrate the start of the 2006/2007 cricket season with a formal gathering at Crown Casino in Melbourne. All of the Australian Domestic and International cricketers were asked to attend the night as a relaxed way of starting the season. Also attending were members of the pres keen to get a few words out of each of the Domestic Captains about what they think there chances are for the coming season.

Daniel Marsh ? Tasmanian Tigers
?We?ve had a really great break in the off season. Our pre season has gone according to plan and im sure all the boys are keen to get out on the park for game one. We?ve got some great young players at the club that will be looking to get amongst it as well as a great group of senior players that will lead us to victory. We had a great season last year and I think this season will be the one for us.?

Jimmy Maher ? Queensland Bulls
?The Bull?s have been one of the powerhouses of the competition in resent years and we won?t be holding anything back this year to regain the Pura Cup. There is some real talent in this side and a great mix of youth and experience. I reckon well start the year as favourites.?

Darren Lehmann ? South Australia Redbacks
?Im really happy with the team I?ve got at my disposal. There are some class batsman in our line-up and our bowling attack is in my opinion the strongest in the competition when were at full strength. We?re going to be hard to beat after the great pre season we?ve had.?

Simon Katich ? New South Wales Blues
?I think we?ve got something like 8 or 9 blokes that have represented Australia in our squad so we?d be bloody hard to beat at full strength. What can I say the depth of this squad is unreal and we?ll certainly be going into this season with a lot of confidence?

Chris Rogers ? Western Australia Warriors
?We have the squad to go all the way in both forms of the game this season. We have a massive batting line-up that can extend all the way down to as low as 10 and our pace attack will cause some big problems for the opposition. Can?t wait to get out for for the new season.?

Cameron White ? Victoria Bushrangers
?It was disappointing to lose the Pura Cup final last year so we definitely have some scores to settle this year. We?ll be looking to start our season well and then just take it from there. We?ve got a good mix of cricketers and hopefully we can be competitive in both forms of the game.

During what was a good night I found myself in discussion with gun batsman Damien Martyn and Shane Watson as they assured me that I would have a very pleasant return to Domestic Cricket. Marto retold his story about how all cricketers go through rough patches in their careers much like he did after being axed from the Australian team only to fight back and then get axed again after the last Ashes Series. Watto has also had his tough times in cricket after suffering numerous injuries to just about every major part of his body but as he told me ?You just have to keep coming back no matter how many set backs you come across. The convocation dyed down as Cameron White approached us and we all had to pretend we were interested in what he had to say for the next 3 hours.

Slats shares a laugh with a few of Australian Crickets finest??... and Cameron White

The night drew to a close as we all went our separate ways and prepare ourself for our last few training sessions before the season gets under way which for us will be at the WACA against the Warriors in a One Day fixture. It is sure to be a very competitive season in both forms of the game and one I think the Bushrangers are more then ready for.

Good luck slats for this season! ;)

Also Nice presentation SL! :)

Slatter Signs With Kookaburra

Victorian Bushranger Jesse Slatter has today signed with successful Australian cricket bat manufacturer Kookaburra. The youngster who is making his return to Domestic Cricket after being sidelined for 12 months through injury commented that ?Im really happy to have signed with the blokes that have sent the benchmark for cricket gear for a long period of time.? Slatter has signed with The popular brand sponsors for a one year deal which means he joins the list of over 20 International players and hundreds of Domestic and grade cricketers all over the world to use Kookaburras products.

?It?s great to be back in domestic cricket after such a long time away from the game. Im really confident that Kookaburra are the brand that can help me excel in first class cricket this season and I look forward to working with them this season.? Said Slatter as he signed on the dotted line.

--------------------------------------------------

The Bushrangers were dealt a big blow this week with their veteran opening batsman Jason Arnberger suffering a long standing but undiagnosed back injury that threatens his nine-year career with the state. The opener will play no part for the Bushrangers in the early parts of the season and the fear is that his career may be over should his recovery from the injury be unsuccessful. Arnberger who is now 34 was excepting of the news that he wont be able to play for his state commenting that "I guess it's a natural thing with someone my age that if I do have a prolonged time out of the game that someone coming through will take my spot, I've just got to hope that when I'm fit and well, they want me in the side - even if it's batting down the order. If I've played my last game then I've had a great career and I've enjoyed every game that I've played for Victoria. If a young guy comes through, if he does take my spot, then hopefully he can have a long career as well."

In lighter news Cameron White has been re named captain for the Bushrangers in both the Pura Cup and Ford Ranger Cup. ?It?s always a great honour to captain a side at any level and I?ll be giving it my best effort this year to go one better then we did last season? said the skipper. The Victorian Bushrangers will have their final training session tomorrow before flying to Perth to take on the Western Warriors who have been a huge force in one day cricket at this level for years and will prove a tough task for Victoria first up.
