Western Australia Warriors Vs Victorian Bushrangers

Western Warriors 1st Innings Live
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Brendan Julian: The Warriors are off to a decent start here after Losing Langer early for just 2 from 10 deliveries. It was the Bushrangers danger bowler who got him caught behind fending at an out swinger that pitched just outside off and left him. It was 1/9 then but Chris Rogers and Marcus North have led the recovery nicely Flem

Damien Fleming: Yeah it was danger signs early but they?ve gotten through this new ball al right and seem to be going along nicely without any of the Victorian bowlers looking gall that threatening besides Denton of course.

Brendan Julian: Well now that you?ve said that Flem it looks like Cameron White has made a bowling change and it?s going to be the medium fast bowling of Slatter.

Slatter 1st Spell Summary
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Brendan Julian: Slatter started well their Flem with a maiden to his name. He?s showed some promising signs as a young medium fast bowler but he may be lacking in variation. What are your thoughts?

Damien Fleming: I think your right BJ. He doesn?t produce a lot of outswing and at times his bowling can seem one dimensional as it is pretty much up and down. This will probably prevent him from becoming a real threat with the ball and reduce him to just being a part time bowler that the skipper can throw the ball to every now and then for something different.

Brendan Julian: He does however have the ability to land it on the spot as he showed in his first few over with his second over going for 4 runs with a great back foot drive through cover and his third over going for just a single. So it?s not all bad for him he will just have to rely on boring the batsman into making a mistake to get his wickets.

Damien Fleming: Yeah as you said he?s not all that threatening but he has a very economical action that allows him to put it on the spot and not go for to many runs which can be handy in the one day game in situations where they need to keep the runs down.

Brendan Julian: And of course he picked up his first wicket of the season in his fourth over with Shaun Marsh who appeared to be getting settled in to his innings attempting to play on the up of the back foot and only managed to spoon it to Warne at mid on to make it 2/73 and return the balance to this match.

Damien Fleming: Yeah more of a bad shot then a good ball to get Marsh out. This match is still very much alive however the Bushrangers may just have their noses in front at this stage. The moment I?d like to point out though was when North blocked his first ball back to Slatter and he fired it back at the stumps and they both just glared at each other. That moment really just summed up the rivalry between these two teams and it will be very hotly contested with both teams keen to start the season with a win.

Brendan Julian: Well the umpires have removed the bails for tea here on day 2 of this match. I?d agree with you Damien the Bushrangers just have their noses in front with the Warriors only really looking to bat slowly and aim for first innings points. A result is still possible however but for now it?s tea so we?ll see you in 20 minutes for the final session of day 2.

Western Warriors 1st Innings
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Brendan Julian: It looks like there is a change in the bowling with the Warriors at 4/219 which means they trail by 152 runs. It?s going to be Slatter to be re-introduced into the attack after the opening bowlers here on day 3. A good move Flem?

Damien Fleming: I think so yeah. They haven?t picked up a wicket this morning so a change in the attack is needed. Slatter picked up the valuable wicket of Marsh yesterday so it will be interesting to see if he can manage another breakthrough by getting either Ronchi or Voges out here.

Brendan Julian: So it?s Slatter back on and in discussion with the skipper Cameron White at the moment presumably about what field placing?s they think would be affective. He?ll be bowling to bowl to Adam Voges who is on 30 and Luke Ronchi his partner who is at the none-strikers end is on 59.

Slatter 2nd Spell Summary
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Brendan Julian: Well what a start from Slatter here picking up the wicket of Voges for 34 with just his 4th ball of his second spell. It was a touch short of a length with Voges attempting to drive at it and ended up playing away from his body which is what brought about the edge in the end.

Damien Fleming: Some fantastic bowling there after being hit for a boundary. That?s a big breakthrough for the Victorians and you can just sense that another one would put the Bushrangers right on top here at the WACA.

Brendan Julian: Not a great follow up over their from Slatter going for 10 runs including 2 boundaries which shows that the Warriors aren?t going to just sit back and let the Victorians bowl dot balls. Sean Ervine is the new batsman and he?s going to need to get a few here to stop the home side from conceding a first innings lead.

Damien Fleming: This ones in the air???..Hodge is under it and???..yes he?s gone. Luke Ronchi is gone and well he looked like he was set to play a big role in this one but he played late on that lofted shot and it?s gone straight up in the air with Brad Hodge taking the catch. Slatter now has 3 wickets and the Warriors are in a lot of trouble.

Brendan Julian: It was a fantastic over with Slatter changing his pace and fooling Ronchi there with a quicker, fuller delivery. A wicket maiden there with Slatter picking up wicket number 3 and it?s the Warriors in deep trouble now.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Brendan Julian: The bails are being removed so that?s lunch on day 3. The Warriors are 250/7 tailing by a massive 121 runs. Well it?s happened very quickly with Slatter picking up two wickets in his spell of 6 overs there Flem.

Damien Fleming: A fantastic spell of bowling from Slatter to get rid of Ronchi the danger man and of cause Voges before that. If he keeps bowling in this good form he will be taking a lot more wickets this season and I wouldn?t be surprised if he does just that.

------------------------------------------------------------------

1st Over - . 4 . Wckt 1 1 ? 2/16
2nd Over - . 1 . 4 4 1? 2/26

Western Warriors Bowled Out
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Brendan Julian: So the warriors have succumbed to the pressure of the Victorian attack with Denton the pick of the bowlers with 4 wickets and Slatter also very tidy picking up 3 wickets. Rogers and Ronchi were the men for WA but none of them went on with their start. 290 from 120 overs Flem what do they do from here?

Damien Fleming: Well the Bushrangers will at leased pick up 2 points from this game but they?ll want to pick up all 6. I?d expect Cameron White to tell his top order batsmen to play aggressively so they can get a lead of 250 ? 300 and then try and bowl WA out on the final day if they can.

Brendan Julian: So this match has just got interesting all of a sudden. It?s the Bushrangers to start their second innings after this short break.

Western Warriors Trail By 81 Runs

What a allround performance by Slatts! He is proving more valuable day by day!

grt bowling by slats and hah warne took no wickets for 70, thats funny cos its him

3 for 30 pretty good, new BB?

Yeah the previous best figures were 3/58 so it's a new BBI which means a wicket in the next innings would give Slats new best match figures. I've installed Burma's bat pack and for some reason it's given Slats a GM so it looks like he's got a new bat sponsor for the rest of the season.

Western Australia Warriors Vs Victorian Bushrangers
The WACA, Perth

Brendan Julian: It?s through the infield and yes that?s a boundary to bring up a half century for Slatter. It?s his 4th First Class 50 however he is yet to score a century. It?s been one hell of an innings from the youngster here who have obviously been told by his captain to have a hit in order to get quick runs so the Bushrangers can get a big enough lead and also have enough time to bowl out WA in search of 6 points from this game.

Damien Fleming: There?s no question that this has been a superb innings from Slatter. He?s played his shots from the word go and hasn?t offered a chance in what has been quick fire half century that has taken just 40 if you would believe. 6 boundaries and 2 sixes so far in what has been a destructive innings where Slatter has really taken apart the bowling attack and blokes like Dorey, Magoffin and Edmonson aren?t easy to take apart. He could have a big score lined up in this innings if he keeps his head with about and hour and 20 minutes until stumps here on day three.

Brendan Julian: Well that?s right I cant see any bowler getting him out in this kind of form he?s only going to get himself out playing a loose stroke. Some very clean hitting in this innings with the highlight being that six that hit the top of the grand stand off the middle of Slatter?s bat. Look out for this kid in the future if he plays more knocks like this one.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Slatter went on to make just 18 more runs making it to a new career high score in first class cricket having gone past his previous best of 62 however it looks as though he has let the Warriors off the hook as he had total control of the Warriors bowling attack and hit a number of crushing boundaries off them all. Having previously lost Mash for 51 and Hodge for 18 the Bushrangers still need a partnership as they currently lead by 260 runs with under an hour of play remaining on the second last day. It looks as though Slatter is twice the cricketer he was last season as he now can hit boundaries on both sides of the wicket particularly targeting cover, mid on and square on the on side which is where he hit two on his sixes which landed well back in the crowd presenting catching opportunities to the spectators.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Victoria Declare

Brendan Julian: It looks like Cameron White is declaring for the second time in this match which is a huge moral victory over the Warriors who?s bowling attack has looked pedestrian right through this match picking up only 7 wickets in both innings with the Bushrangers piling on 612 combined runs in two innings.

Damien Fleming: They haven?t looked good have they the Warriors attack. The WA batsmen now have their work cut out for them needing 323 runs to win or simply to bat it out for a draw. It?s 11:19am at the moment here on the final day so I cant see the Warriors getting the runs requires it?s up to the Victorian pace attack now.

Western Warriors Require 323 Runs For Victory

i am backing up slats for MOTM and vic Br shd be able to quick 10 wickets :D and win this though draw is more likey to result i guess!

Excellent presentation SL! I liked that 50 screen :) :clap

The Warriors have heaps of time to win this game. Maybe the declartion should have been a bit later perhaps.

Well done on your new high score :)

And I agree Surren with both of your last points :)

Western Australia Warriors Vs Victorian Bushrangers
The WACA, Perth
16th October 2006

Brendan Julian: The Western Warriors have started very well here with Langer and Rogers seeing off the new ball without the loss of a wicket. The Bushrangers are going to have to do something special to win it from here and it looks like Cameron White the Victorian skipper is going to leave it to Slatter with this bowling change. At this stage WA require a further 282 runs for victory which is very unlikely so it looks like were headed for a draw at this stage. It?s 0/41 after 31 overs with Langer 24 and Rogers on 16.

Damien Fleming: Slatter has bowled well in this match so far but this is a very difficult situation for him to walk into with 31 overs gone already and still 10 wickets in the shed for WA. There is going to need to be a big turn around if Victoria are going to get anywhere near this one. It?s 1:58pm at the moment so there is still time if they are good enough.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Slatter?s First Spell
1st Over ? 2 Wickets: Langer bottom edges a pull shot first ball of the spell to Crosthwaite and Rogers as so edges to Crosthwaite off the 3rd ball playing off the back foot. ? 2/5
2nd Over ? Maiden over ? 2/5
3rd Over ? 1 off the over and a very close LBW appeal turned down. It looked out at first but the umpire was convinced it was going down the leg side. ? 2/6
4th Over - 3 from the over ? 2/9
5th Over ? Run Out: Marcus North is involved in a mix up and is run out at the keepers end by centre metres as WA slip to 5 wickets down for 121 thanks to wickets from Wise and Warne. ? 2/10
6th Over ? A boundary off the last ball of the over ? 2/14
7th Over ? 3 singles off the over ? 2/17

Slatter?s Second Spell
8th Over ? Only a single off the 5th ball ? 2/18
9th Over ? Wicket: Voges is gone for 30 as Mash takes the catch at second slip with WA now unbelievably looking like losing this game. ? 3/21
10th Over - Just a single off the over ? 3/22
11th Over ? One off the first ball ? 3/23
12th Over ? Run Out: Keeper fumbles as Ervine tries to take a single and is run out on the recovery by a metre and it?s now 7/136 ? 3/25

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Brendan Julian: Well the introduction of Slatter meant that the wickets started to tumble at both end as well as some clumsy run outs which clearly weren?t needed in the match situation. Just 3 more wickets are required for the Victorians to secure what was an unlikely victory a couple of hours ago.

Damien Fleming: Yes some inspirational bowling from Slatter there and some good support from Wise and Warne at the other end picking up a wicket each in support. The Warriors are now looking down the barrel of a loss if their tailenders can?t survive for long enough to draw this game.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Western Warriors Bowled Out

Brendan Julian: Oh no it?s yet another run out and it?s cost the Warriors the match. That?s the final wicket as Magoffin is run out at the bowlers end backing up to far. An unbelievable turn out in the end with 4 run outs and 3 wickets from 12 overs from Slatter meaning that the Bushrangers have clawed home with just 14 minutes remaining in the match. It?s a heartbreaking result for WA who just fell short at the final hurdle Flem.

Damien Fleming: Well I?d hate to say it but that was some stupid cricket from Western Australia and they didn?t deserve to draw it. Slatter will be my man of the match taking 6 wickets for the match and a 30 in the first innings as well as a quick 60 in the second innings. Overall a well deserved win for the Bushrangers to get their season off to a good start and it?s also broken their losing streak at this ground.

Slats has become the key player now!

6 wickets and good batting... what a return for Slats..... He shd be MOTM as he played a vital role in this victory!

Western Australia Warriors Vs Victorian Bushrangers
16th October 2006
Match Summary

Victorian Bushrangers 3/371 dec. and 4/241 dec. defeated
Western Warriors 290 and 147
By 175 runs

Losing Captain Justin Langer Said:
?We played good cricket 2 and a half days and just let ourselves down in the final session of day 3 and of course our batsmen didn?t get the job done on day 4 to at leased get the draw. We?ll have a look at where were at the moment during the week but hopefully we can put this behind us and move forward for the rest of the season. We?ve got some things we need to work on with our bowlers needing to focus on taking 20 wickets, which obviously they didn?t do in this game and our batsmen needing to build partnerships, which are required to post big totals.?

Winning Captain Cameron White Said:
?I couldn?t be happier with the performance the boys have put in all 4 days of this game. We always knew that we could win this game and it was a great reward for how hard we?ve worked in this match to come away with 6 points. Some fantastic individual performances fro a few blokes make this one just that bit sweeter. If we can replicate performances like this one were we put on 612 and lose only 7 wickets in two innings as well as being able to take 10 wickets for 100 runs like we did in the second innings then we?ll be a real force in this competition.?

Man Of The Match Jesse Slatter Said:
?It was my first game of Pura Cup cricket since that injury so im very happy to have performed well scoring over 100 runs and taking 6 wickets in a game would be great in any game but to do it in my comeback makes it a great achievement for me. It was a great team effort to pick up the points in this game and hopefully we can continue on from our success for the rest of the season.
