Post Match Analysis and Presentation

BJ: So the Warriors have cleaned up the Bushrangers for just 221 runs to win by 41 which is perhaps an easier win then the Warriors would have expected AB?

AB: Yeah, The Victorians didn?t put up much of a fight apart from Slatter who showed determination but was eventually removed for 58 which just wasn?t enough. There was a quick fire innings from Gerard Denton at the end there, which will be a positive for the Bushrangers as they have the potential to score big totals as long as the top order stays in for a while. I don?t rate the Bushrangers as much of a one-day team I think they are much more suited to the 4 day format.

BJ: You may just be right AB. They do show the potential to bat for long periods of time with a batting order that stretches all the way down. You?d expect them to be a lot more competitive in the Pura Cup game coming up in a few days time. As we take a look at the Bushrangers worm you?ll see a lot of red dots in a cluster which led to there downfall in the end having been bowled out with 6 overs still remaining.

AB: I think special mention has to go to Sean Ervine for that who ended up with 5/59 and really was the man to cause the collapse. He?s still good enough to play International cricket but unfortunately due to the circumstances in Zimbabwe he is over he but still performing well.

BJ: It?s time to cross down to Mark Waugh now who has a few important men to speak to.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mark Waugh: Thanks boys. Joining me first is the victorious captain Justin Langer. JL a good way for you to start the season and some runs for yourself.

Justin Langer: Yeah, It?s really pleasing to see the boys as such a tight unit in the first game of the season. Everyone contributed to this win which makes it all the more satisfying.

MW: What did you make of Sean Ervine?s performance with the ball snapping up 5 wickets in quick time to get rid of the Bushrangers?

Justin Langer: Yeah look Sean is a class act and he has been for years. It?s great for him to pick up a 5 wicket haul, which is well deserved. All our bowlers I thought were spot on the mark all day which is why we got the result we did.

MW: Thanks for your time Justin and best of luck with the Pura Cup game in a few days

Justin Langer: Thanks mate hopefully we can string a few wins together. Cheers.

MW: And now a less joyful captain joins me. Cameron where did it go wrong today.

Cameron White: I?ve been told that we lost 8/88 which you just cant do at this level and expect to win. We have some problems that we need to address and fix before the Pura Cup game in a few days but we are still confident of springing back stronger then we were today.

MW: Yeah obviously not a real strong batting performance but what are the positives you?ll draw out of this game?

Cameron White: Our bowlers did very well on a difficult pitch that didn?t offer a lot of assistance. There was some individual efforts in the batting such as Slats in his comeback game making 58 and some good lower order batting so there are some big positives we just need to do the basics better and the results will be different.

MW: Thanks for your time Cameron and we look forward to you bouncing back stronger in the next match.

Cameron White: Thanks Junior.

MW: And finally I am joined by the Man Of The Match which is Sean Ervine for his spectacular figures of 5/59. Sean should we expect this kind of quality bowling for the rest of the season?

Sean Ervine: It seemed to click for me today and everything just went my way so yeah I would hope for a few repeat performances in the future. It?s just great to have a win to start and hopefully we can do well this season.

MW: Alright well best of luck following up this performance in the next few days.

SE::Thanks alot Mark.

MW: That?s all from me so it?s back up to you in the box.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

BJ: That?s all from the WACA today we hope you have enjoyed our coverage so until next time it?s goodbye from the Fox Sports crew. Goodnight

Rest And Recovery For The Bushrangers
Saturday 14th October 2006
Perth, Western Australia

Today acts as a recovery day with training optional for those that think they need a hit before tomorrow?s game. Yes that?s right there?s just a day?s break before we take the field at the WACA for the first Pura Cup match of our season. Here?s hoping that Cameron White wins the toss and we have a bat al though it is doubtful. You can be out of form with the bat and ball but Cameron is the only bloke I know that extends his bad form to the coin toss as well. There are concerns over vice captain Jon Moss for tomorrows game who has pulled up from yesterdays game very gingerly complaining of some hamstring soreness so he is in doubt for tomorrows game which would mean Lloyd Mash comes in if Moss isn?t right to play. On a positive note the one and only Shane Warne has declared himself available and will take the field with us tomorrow, which is a great help and goes a long way towards strengthening the bowling attack. Spirits are high that we can avenge yesterday?s loss and win in the real cricket, which is the 4-day game.

After my 58 yesterday I am reluctant to train and opt for the day using the excuse that im ?seeing them better then Bradman? which got a few mixed responses from the boys. It seemed as though the majority decision in the end was not to train so the boys hit the local bowling alley for a social game although it got a little heated when the skipper Cameron White cheated, well he must of because none of us remember him scoring 300.

White is a dirty cheat off the ground as well as on it

With the fun and games coming to an end the focus is now on tomorrow?s game against what we have already realised is a very strong Western Australia Warriors side and it will take our best cricket to win with a lot of attention on who wins the toss and elects to bat on what is looking like being a road of a pitch that may offer some assistance to the spinners come day 4.

Victorian Bushrangers Vs Western Australia Warriors
Pura Cup Match
The WACA - 16th October 2006

Head To Head Match-ups

-------------------------------------------------
Lloyd Mash Vs Justin Langer (C)
-------------------------------------------------

Langer will again lead the side a will be hopeful of starting the season off with a win in both forms of the game against the Bushrangers. The Australian Test Match opening batsman returns home to the longer form of the game, which he enjoys the most. Lloyd Mash has looked impressive in his short career so far but obviously doesn?t have the weight of runs to compare with Langer

Western Warriors: 1
Victorian Bushrangers: 0

-------------------------------------------------
Nick Jewell Vs Chris Rogers (VC)
-------------------------------------------------

Jewell will move back up the batting order for this match and open the batting. He?s an aggressive type player that will look to go after the bowlers early, which can sometimes be his downfall. Rogers is a key player for the Warriors and has been for seasons, which brings up the question why he isn?t considered for the Australian Test team. Look out for him here.

Western Warriors: 2
Victorian Bushrangers: 0

-------------------------------------------------
Jesse Slatter Vs Shaun Marsh
-------------------------------------------------

Slatter showed that he is mature beyond his years in the Ford Ranger game the other day but is still a little wet behind the ears to be classified as in the same categories as Shaun Marsh but he does have a bright future in the game. Other man that is dangerous if he gets going in the WA top order and is showing signs of form of late.

Western Warriors: 3
Victorian Bushrangers: 0

-------------------------------------------------
Brad Hodge Vs Marcus North
-------------------------------------------------

Hodgey has stated lately that he will be looking to force his way back into Test team consideration with a mountain of runs in the Pura Cup this year so now?s the time for him to show his talent. Marcus North is also a class act and has an ability to play a longer innings but this one goes to Hodge and the Bushrangers first point simply because he?s a hell of a batsmen.

Western Warriors: 3
Victorian Bushrangers: 1

-------------------------------------------------
Luke Ronchi (WK) Vs Adam Crosthwaite (WK)
-------------------------------------------------

The keeper?s battle is an interesting one as always with both of them class behind the stumps. Crosthwaite showed in the one-day game that he is not much with the bat where as Ronchi can score runs so the match-up goes to him.

Western Warriors: 4
Victorian Bushrangers: 1

-------------------------------------------------
Cameron White (VC) Vs Sean Ervine
-------------------------------------------------

This one is perhaps one of the key match-ups as both men will need to do a tidy job at leased with the ball and also score runs depending on the situation in the middle to lower order. Ervine is showing the class he is with that 5/59 in the Ford Ranger game. White failed to fire in that game so Ervine wins based on good form.

Western Warriors: 5
Victorian Bushrangers: 1

-------------------------------------------------
Shane Warne (C) Vs Aaron Heal
-------------------------------------------------

You wouldn?t want to be compared to Shane Warne but Aaron Heal the left arm orthodox spinner has to be. It seems as though the WAC selectors are experimenting with the youngster on what is expected to be a flat track. Listen for the cheer when Warne is announced to bowl from the southern end. Obviously the match-up goes to the king of spin.

Western Warriors: 5
Victorian Bushrangers: 2

-------------------------------------------------
Gerard Denton Vs Brett Dorey
-------------------------------------------------

Denton seems to of replaced Lewis as the spearhead of the Victorians attack. Now bowling at up to 145 km/h Denton has come of age in years swinging the ball both ways and creating problems for top orders. Dorey?s height allows him to extract steep bounce and on a WACA pitch that is frightening to think of. A very tough one to pick with both men having the ability to take a bag full so it half each.

------------------------------------------------

Final Score line

Western Warriors: 5.5
Victorian Bushrangers: 2.5

Lovely Prsntation Again!

Whats goin to batting order for Slatts in this match? ;)

Short Leg said:
He's been given a second go at number 3 after the One-Day game.

Thats good news for Slats..hope he utilises it! :)

Very nice work with the match-up Slats :)

Hopefully Warnie and co. can put on a 5 star performance. It will be a tough game for the Vics though.

Is there actually injuries in the game SL or are you just making them up to make the story more realisitc?

Fox Sports At The WACA
Western Australia Warriors Vs Victorian Bushrangers
16th October 2006

Brendan Julian: Hello and thanks for joining us. We?re back at the WACA again with the Bushrangers and the Warriors this time battling it out in the Pura Cup. With me for today?s game in former Australian fast bowler Damien Fleming.

Damien Fleming: Great to be here BJ.

BJ: your Vic?s are out there today Flem, do you think hey can get up away from home?

DF: I?d like to think they could mate but im not to sure after that performance 2 days ago. The toss is going to very crucial and could alter the result.

BJ: Also the fact that the Victorians have performed poorly on this ground in the history of the domestic competition wont help either. Alright well you mentioned the toss will be crucial Damien so let?s go down to Jamie Cox now to find confirm what we already know about this pitch.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jamie Cox: We did think that this pitch would be a flat track that was made for batting boys and that assumption was right. This isn?t the same pitch that these two teams played on the other day but it is a lot flatter and is made for batting first. The toss will be massive in this game as the team that bats first basically shouldn?t lose, as it is paradise in these conditions. It is extremely hot out here today with the temperature set to get up to 34 degrees which will make it tough for the bowlers. We?ll get the full 100 overs in with no chance of rain for today?s game. The outfield is nice and hard, as we haven?t had any rain here for quite a while. In summary the captain that wins the toss will have no hesitation in batting, maybe even into tomorrow in pursuit of first innings points. I don?t like the chances of an outright result on this deck boy.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BJ: Thanks for that Jamie. It really is a road down there and with these hot conditions the odds are unbelievably in the batsman?s favour. I wouldn?t want to be out there in that mid 30-degree heat bowling on a pitch that is offering no assistance.

DF: No the conditions don?t really look like offering a good cricket match. It looks more like this is going to be a run fest that ends in a draw but we?ll have to wait and see.

BJ: I recent times we haven?t seen this pitch as bouncy as it used to be back in the 1980?s and 1990?s do you think that it?s back to it best here today?

DF: It certainly looks likes it?s the closest we?ve been to it in a while. I don?t think it will offer the same amount of bounce that it used to which is why it will be tough for the bowlers. I don?t think we?ll see a lot of slips in use as the fielding captain will go for more of a defensive tactic on this type of pitch.

BJ: Ok well Jamie Cox is down there with the two captains for the coin toss now so lets join them.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jamie Cox: Justin Langer will toss the coin and Shane Warne will call it in the air.

Shane Warne: Heads

Jamie Cox: It?s a head so Shane what are you going to do

SW: We?ll bat. It won?t come as a surprise to anyone because this is going to be a great batting deck. We?ll be looking for the blokes in the top order to bat all day and put on a big first innings total.

Jamie Cox: It?s not often you play for Victoria so are you expecting the Warriors to come after your bowling?

SW: I hope so. If they do it will certainly give me the opportunity to take wickets and hopefully get on top of the game. I enjoy playing for the Bushrangers when I get the chance so I?ll be using it as preparation for the Ashes coming up later this summer.

Jamie Cox: Thanks Shane and best of luck for the match

SW: Cheers Coxy

Jamie Cox: Well Justin you won the toss the other day but you haven?t won today and your fielding.

Justin Langer: Yeah just looking at this pitch you can tell we would have liked to have batted but obviously that isn?t the case. If we bowl in the right areas im confident we can have the Bushrangers out by tonight.

Jamie Cox: Your captaincy is up against Warney?s today how do you think you?ll compare?

Justin Langer: Im glad I play a lot of cricket with Warney and not against him. We?re both very passionate about our states so it?ll be interesting how this one unfolds.

Jamie Cox: Good luck today JL.

Justin Langer: Thanks alot Coxy.

Jamie Cox: Back to you BJ.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BJ: Before we take a break lets have a look at the teams for this match.

BJ: Well it?s time for us to take a break but when we come back it will be time for the first ball of this Pura Cup match live from the WACA ground in Perth.
