Wigan striker Emile Heskey has been recalled to the England squad by coach Fabio Capello but Peter Crouch misses out for the Czech Republic friendly.

Heskey has scored five goals in 45 appearances for England and last played for the international team in September 2007 in the 3-0 win over Russia.

Shows the desperate state the England football team is in when they have to rely on Heskey, at least Carrick isn't ignored this time.

This is great news. England have shown that they need a proven prolific goal scorer like Heskey, and finally Capello sees sense and calls him up! Great move.

Emile Heskey is a much under-rated support striker. Just because he doesn't get 20 a season doesn't mean he hasn't got value. When he and Owen partnered each other for those two games (forgotten who it was), we looked at our best up-front. That includes all the times Rooney has been in the XI, then again, I don't think he is consistent enough or fits into the side.

Heskey over Rooney?
