England in Australia

@ Langerrox and Manee - It was I believe Jeff Thompson who came out and said before the last Ashes that Hoggy was no more than a net bowler who would get carted around during the Ashes, those were words he most certainly came to regret.

Who cares what Thompson said about Hoggard. He has nothing to do with the current Australian side. I'm very sure that the Australian side wouldn't have shown Hoggard that sort of disrespect. Although Hoggard will probably find it tougher in Australia, conditions here don't suit his bowling all too much.

Vaughan had is moment in the sun back in 2002 and 2003, he is nowhere near the batsmen he used to be. Although like Brian Lara he is a guy you always have to be careful of because he can make some big scores. Although how can you someone say he is has a good technique. He can play a good cover drive, thats about it. He is a good puller, but has anyone seen him roll his wrists on a pull shot? Hardly good technique.

Manee and Langerrox were discussing who had belittled Hoggy before the Ashes, I was merely pointing out who it was, and although I didn't say so in the post, showing how meaningless it was considering it was regular motor mouth Jeff Thomson. He may have been a superb bowler, but he more often than not sticks his foot in it.

But, that being said, Im sure a fair few Aussies thought little of Hoggard before he bowled in this years ashes.

nah i always thought highly of hoggard after that south africa series.

hoggard is good in test mateches......but i m looking forward to flintof after Ashes...he was brilliant in it...

He is a very useful player. Offers an attacking option at the start of the test, one of the best new ball bowlers in World Cricket. If the ball does swing at any stage through the rest of the match he remains a massive danger, as happened in South Africa. When it doesn't swing, he still offers the stock bowler option who can bowl longish spells and rarely go for many runs whilst still bowling the odd wicket taking delivery.

With Monty now providing an attacking option through spin, Hoggy could well do a lot of bowling in partnership with Monty to keep things tight and build pressure. Seems to read the batsman well, and throw in his cutters at the right moments.

A lot of people don't realise that Hoggard's capable of reverse-swing too. He's worked hard at it and with his stock ball being an away-swinger, his reverse swinger can be very surprising.

It may be Gillespie's final chance to prove that he is still good enough for International cricket.

What? He won't be judged in a one-day warm-up.

Just a shame that he only bowls medium pace then. Luckily Australia deal in left handed batsmen though, so he should have some joy.

Jaques currently unbeaten on 147 off 176 balls in NSW Pura Cup match.

Surely he's gotta get the nod?

They only really seem to see Jaques as an opener. What other country besides Australia can get away with leaving out a guy who averages just under 60?

Come on Evo, Panesar? making us rattled? LOL.

He is an good player I'll give do you honestly think the will get turn on the aus pitches (cept SCG) and trouble our batsman? You are talking him up too much. He isn't Warne or even close to Macgill, Get ready to see him dispatched and crack under the crowd as well.

He turned it at Headingley, nuff said.
