England in Australia

I am disgused at the racism. Already it is a factor.

It's a pretty cheap shot.

Monty getting abused by the crowd is pathetic as well.
nothing new really
has happened to Asian sides in the past

does not justify it, of course !

Whats more pathetic, the fact that someone did say that stuff, or the fact that the BBC talk it up the general crowds in Australia being like this. I'm getting really sick of how the media blows this up out of proportion, you would have to be an idiot to not know that it is just a select amount of people who are racist, not everyone in the MCG.
I don't see anything biased and wrong with the BBC article, they were pretty much referring to quotes and issues that were addressed from the Daily Telegraph here in Sydney. It is a real shame once again the issue of racism is in the headlines, it certainly does tarnish the Australian crowds reputation. The majority or I'd say 99% of spectators attend the game enjoying the cricket and offer some friendly banter but the 1% of the crowd or the dozen or so stupid spectators just ruin it. I've been to several cricket matches in the past at the SCG and to be honest every time I attend a game I will always hear a group shout racist taunts to players in the vicinity where I am sitting. I still remember what my fomer high school principal consistently say to the school "it takes one person to damage a reputation, but years of hard work to build on it".

It's definitely a theme and SA found that it wasn't just isolated fans either.
Anyhow well done England for a better performance but I really hope our lower order aren't going to be that easy to blow over in the test matches...

Geraint Jones, better at batting? BS!! Well played KP and freddie we need them two on form and it looks like Jimmy might get the 3rd seamers place he bowled well for his figures.

How about we try and talk about the cricket? I know it's not exactly great, and everyone on here is obviously appaled, but instead of letting the racists take our attention away from the cricket, lets carry on talking about the postitive side of the game?

Well I say positive, but I actually just want to moan about the fact that Geraint Jones has learnt nothing! He missed a stumping off Monty, and when he was batting got out to one that nipped back in. Standard Jones!

I'm afraid this will probably be the theme of my posts in this forum for the rest of the Ashes, I still can't believe Fletcher has done it, and I find it almost laughable that in Jones two games back he has carried on his appaling batting form from when he was dropped, and seemed to have reverted to his previous self with the gloves.

I find it quite remarkable that Jones and Read have the same number of stumpings at Test Level, guess who has played double the amount of tests! When keeping to a spinner Jones always looks absolutely clueless, and it seems nothing has changed :(

Did Katich actually get injured or just went off as 'hurt' to give some other people a chance? Looks like Anderson has sewn up that 3rd bowling spot and Giles has taken more Wickets than Monty, so it's hard to see how Fletcher isn't going to pick him. My prediction of Fletchers team for the next warm-up game/first test is:

Trescothick
Strauss
Cook
Pietersen
Bell
Flintoff
Jones
Giles
Hoggard
Harmison
Anderson

That's only because people keep putting down the chances off Montys bowling. Not exactly helping him out! To be fair Panesar seemed to move onto the next level as a spin bowler with Read behind the stumps. They were both fairly (relatively) new to the team, and they both seemed to work well together, with both having a good series against Pakistan.

Still considering Jones has barely scored a run on his return, it hardly strengthens the arguement that having Jones at 7 allows Fletcher to play Monty. So Giles and Jones it is :( It's like school yard football, you pick your mates and that's that.

Indeed Mark! Ah well, I think I will have to say now that this is the last I will bring up the whole Jones issue. I've said my piece, at least as many times as he's dropped the ball this tour, and I will give it a rest until he either proves me right or wrong sometime around the 3rd day of the 1st test. Until then, I will shed a little tear, and try and figure out how exactly Fletcher is currently justifying his decisions :( *

* hopefully with a comfortable 1st test and a tasty piece of humble pie for yours truly, but somehow I doubt it....

So, another fine knock by Cam White for the Bushrangers today. His batting has really been going well over the last couple of seasons and he did okay during the English summer too. Would he be a chance of becoming Australia's number 6 man. He smashed around the English the other day, but he can also bat very steadily. His bowling isn't the greatest in the world, but essentially what the selectors have said that they want is a batsman first, and preferably he can bowl. I really like him and I hope he gets a chance to make an impact at Test level in the not too distant future. I think his form is good enough for him to play there now, but he doesn't play for NSW or QLD :P

You can hardly be a bad keeper to Giles can you :D "Here it comes, will it turn?" he's thinking to himself. Oh wait it went straight.

Why didn't the ECB complain about the racist incident though?

Good to see Jimmy grabbing some wickets and a partnership between Freddy and KP. Giles may have more wickets than Monty, but we all know who is better. And as for Jones mistake, that's what you get with him. yes Read made mistakes, but Read is better, particularly against spinners. A never ending debate.

Ashes to Australia 3-1

i agree with rickyp with regards to the racism issue...it all gets blown out of proportion and if this is going to crop up every time a yob yells something its going to be a bloody long summer.

Arg you made me post on this subject again.. for the last time for a while though I promise!

It's just even against Giles he missed a ton of stumpings and dropped a lot of thin edges. Ok I've said my piece, I'll crawl back into my hole and try and keep myself buried!
