England in Australia

Blimin' Hell. So Cook and Strauss to open. I guess whoever out of Bell and Collingwood that was due to be dropped, now bats at 3? Almost certainly be Bell at 3 I imagine.

I hope Tresco's alright, but that is now the last two away tours that he has used up nearly all the warmup matches and then gone home. I'm not trying to sound like I'm having a go, because if he's not right then he has to go home.

My main worry now is that they do something stupid like stick Kp at 3. Hopefully they stick to their plans, and slot in whichever batsman was going to be left out in at 3. Or will someone like Rob Key/Owais Shah get flown over to open/bat 3 respectively?

Anyway, again I wish Tresco a full recovery, and hope as Fletcher said, that he is able to resume his cricket career.

Here's the latest from the BBC for anyone who is interested -

Hmm, Treco has gone home, we have bigger problems now.

OH CHRIST has he? For god sakes what is wrong with him?

Cook will have to open now but who will come in at 3 that is a problem! Have to call up Shah as back-up maybe.

I don't think it's too big a blow, he obviously has some very big problems and it's akin to Thorpe, so I think he wouldn't have been in a good frame of mind, as to his replacement. Colly is there so could come in, I'd prefer Shah though.

Unfortunately Mitchell Johnson has taken some wickets, and the wickets of international players in the Pura Cup this week on a pitch so flat the walls are jealous.

I think we should definately have MacGill instead.

What a weak minded something or other... it may sound harsh but this is when we need him most, and he's bottled it. Big trouble for England especialy as Giles and Jones are destined to play.

key is great infact i was talking to kev about him last night... i see this as the end of his career also now vaughan may open in one of the tests maybe. what do you think?

That's not only harsh, but it's also offensive to the man. When you fall 'out of love' for something that has been a massive part of your life, it makes things extremely hard. If he could've carried on then he would've.

im sorry but i agree with drew why did he come if it was just gonna make it worse... ah well doesnt matter he wasnt gonna play anyway.

Trescothick seems awfully similar to Graeme Thorpe nowadays. I fail to see why he had to wait until so near the first Test before going home though.

You people ask why he waited so long? This isn't something like a a broken bone where you can moniter it's progress and make decisions accordingly. This is a mental illness, I'm thinking something along the lines of Depression. Anything like that can't be monitered. One moment he could be fine and the next he could be shattered. My guess is that he felt fine to go on the tour but two innings out of the runs made him nervous or what have you which would of brought him crashing down. Theres nothing anyone could of done to stop it or predict it. He could of been (and probably was) as mentally fit as anyone else was when they left, but it just snapped for him.

I hope he can get over it, not just for cricket but himself personally.

Well said CricketFan999.

It's a blow, but surely a mans health and mental health comes first?

Its good for England that Cook is a genuine opener.
Or then it would be trouble.
I guess Bell and Collingwood play now.
