England in Australia

His wrist was mostly fine Manee, at least on his bowling arm it was, it was things like his head and front arm that were falling away.

To be honest you can't really compare our 1st innings and the Aussie 2nd innings. There is a big difference coming out to bat and bowl 600 runs behind, and 500 runs ahead. Doesn't change the fact that the Aussies have outplayed England at every point in this match, but England really seem to have just been going through the motions in the field thinking only about how they might bat out the match.

I feel Jimmy has to be dropped for the second test, he hasn't threatened at all, whilst Harmy despite bowling appalingly for most of the test has generated some pace at times and bowled more balls that have beaten the bat. Jimmy has however bowled 4 balls every over, not really had much discipline and generally struggled to fine the right length or threaten too much.

Also whilst only minor things, and they would have maybe only made the difference between being 600 runs behind and 500 runs behind, the little things haven't gone Englands way like the new ball on day 1 not swinging at all, but every other new ball in the match at least swinging for a few overs. Dropped catches, poor field placements and edges beating the cordon especially from Langer who I fail to understand how he has scored as many runs as he has, incredibly streaky in both innings up until the 20's. A couple of decisions and the toss.

As I said at the start of the paragraph I am not trying to say that the result would be any different as Australia have outplayed us regardless, but those little things will have eaten away at the team, and hopefully if a couple go Englands way in the next test combined with what would have to be far better performance then they can be much more competitive than this current mauling.

Anyway, well played Australia so far, not once have they let up, and I hope Fletcher is rueing his decision to leave out his most attacking spinner, yet again Pietersen spinning the ball more than Giles, and yet again a big partnership being build with no discernible way of breaking it.

Well Ian Pont (England bowling coach no 2), said he knew how to fix Jason Gillespie in his book Fast Bowlers Bible (which is amazing by the way) lets see if he can "fix" Harmison until he has to be dropped for his own good.

I don't know why Australia batted again.

Dad's Army needs to rest those aches and pains.

Like most people they are also probably thinking, England's had their once in twenty years victory. Not much to worry about the next 19 years.

Are you forgetting Australia dominating the first test in the last ashes and what was the result there?

Not at all, I think most people actually think that either this Ashes, or the next one, could be the last one or two that Australia win for 19 years ;)

Warne and McGrath will not be replaceable instantaneously, and the likes of Hayden, Langer, Gilchrist, Martyn have all currently got experience that certainly will be hard to replace, so I think we'll not begrudge the Aussies one last swansong before everything goes pear shaped :p

That being said...and I do not know these peoples ages but:

Stuart Clark
Tait
Johnson
Jaques
Mick Lewis
Watson

I'm a bit worried about how bad this is getting, we aren't bangladesh :p.

Those people saying like McGrath etc aren't too old, look what happened last ashes. had a great start but their ages caught up with them and they struggled a bit near the end of the series while our younger bowlers were still pretty fresh. just looking at an optimistic side for us...

Clark 30 and over, Lewis 30 and over and rubbish. Watson 26 odd, Jaques 26 odd, Johnson and Tait young.

Sorry Manee but you included Mick Lewis in this list so I'm not entirely sure you know what you're talking about :p

And the point was that none of them are McGrath or Warne. As good as Tait or Johnson might be, I can guarantee you they won't take over 500 test wickets each.

Nah, I know he is stubby and slow, I just wanted more players.

Cosgrove also and Gillespie is only 31.

Why Manee? Arguing for the sake of it? Surely look it up before making yourself look silly?

The difference was that there on day 1 we knocked them about, bowled them out and showed showed them what we were made off.
No positives worth mentioning to take from this game so far.

They can hope the law of averages kicks in with Ponting. ;)

Everyone is reading way to much into this. Before Ponting decided to bat again, I couldn't think of many positives, but following that decision, I am quite upbeat to be honest. It put my thinking in perspective.
