England in Australia

but your not playing at the gabba next test...... i believe next stop is adelaide (or waca) and im fairly sure neither of those are awfully kind to spin

Yup Adaliade,

I think we should go with Monty if it looking like it wont spin, BUT in the baking head, cracks will occur and compared to English pitches, the rough stuff starts to appear a hell of alot quicket due to the sun and heat....

Yeah Giles is a Left Arm Slow Bowler, Monty is a Left Arm Spinner....

I kind of agree with Colin here, we should go with both, but i think Monty should be the number one spinner, and always given to ball first as he attacks the batsmen....

Im sure Australia will be wary of Monty, because some of the Aussies have shown they have a bit of a weakness against spin, not big weaknesses but like most teams, they are a bit tentitive. I think Monty would be able to run through the tail, and thats what England need, a bowler who can whipe out the tail quick, for years now England havnt been able to finish a job! Monty just might be the man to turn to on a turning pitch

Completely agree. Monty had done enough I feel to deserve a spot ahead of Giles. The latter has been pretty useless for the past couple of years.

I am a Monty fan, but take this from Fletchers warped mind. Giles is in half as a batter to strengthen the tail and he did that, so the chances of him being dropped are low.

Agreed which is why he should play both.

No one has commented on the one positive from England's innings yet; Bell. Although this defeat will be detrimental to the team, Bell will take confidence from it. That's all we can do now in our second innings; There's no way we can draw or win so the batsmen should start playing for red ink and confidence.

Good point. Up till now I've considered Bell to be extremely overrated and that he always fails when the pressure's on. He may well have proved me wrong there, although people tell me he had been quite lucky to stay as long as he did.

True. But who to drop?
Though I'd rather that England dropped Giles for Monty and be done with it (that whole strengthening the tail thing doesn't fly for me), if both were to play, I'd say drop Harmsion. He won't perform unless he plays on a pitch made for him (like Old Trafford). Besides, dropping him from the team might give him something to work towards. We've done the same with Afridi and West Indies with Sarwan.

The WACA is very much taking spin, Hogg took five in his Pura return for WA and the Pura Cup leading wicket taker is WA's young slow left armer Aaron Heal. Last year's Test surely showed people that there was no venom in the Perth deck. It's been criticised and dryness is attributed as a key factor.

This WA batsman says you'd have to consider spin for the 3rd Test.

And this guy says 3 spinners might be on the cards if one of Perth, Adelaide or Sydney happens to be taking spin even moreso.

Adelaide has never been considered much of a bowler's wicket and generally this means spin is important, even if there's not a lot of turn on offer. On a traditional Adelaide wicket, the innings are long as the days are hot, which means slow men are called on to prevent the attack from grinding to a halt.

I don't understand the fear of spinners that many people have. If your spinners are bowling better than your 3rd or 4th paceman, why leave them out of the team? It should be the most simple of decisions; drop the guy who's going for 4-5 an over for the guy who goes for 2-3 an over.

I wouldnt mind see us bat for half a day scoring at about 5 runs an over. That would give us a lead of about 850. Pretty sure its enough.

Australia are only batting through the night so they can choose the heavy roller in the morning, bat for about an hour and then declare.
