England In India - October 2011/12

India had a right to appeal, but it's easy to imagine that if India were in control of the match when this occurred, they wouldn't have.

They were in their rights to appeal and it was careless of Bell, but the fact that they pursued the appeal shows they were desperate.

This is ████. I wanted a normal game. THis has turned out to be something different. Hope best thing is done in spirit of cricket

Apparently the umpires called "over" according to Ian Bell, in footage from Sky Sports.

Sense may yet prevail and a discussion in a calmer environment may see Bell reinstated. Under the circumstances I'm sure Bell and Morgan wouldn't just walk off if they didn't think play had come to a conclusion.

We aren't seriously going to have every indian on here insisting on crossed Is and dotted teas.............................. :noway Dead ball, smead ball.

Trying to gain an unfair advantage, like taking a quick throw in and scoring a goal when the ball was put out for a player to receive treatement in football.

Hopefully the spirit of cricket will out and he will be recalled. Shocking otherwise from India.
This has happened before and been given not out.

Really? I didn't know that - well then a precedence has been set and this ridiculous decision should be rescinded.

Praveen acted as though it was dead. Complete piss take. Bell claims Rauf has called over.

That's it right there then. The fielder was wondering around aimlessly as though the ball was dead and if the Umpire has called over, then England and Ian Bell have been royally screwed. Well, the game was slipping away from India, this is probably the only way they could've pulled it back.

Should have just re-bowled the final delivery. Simple.

Exactly. The fielder acted as though the ball was dead, so the batsmen went off for tea! And to the Indian supporters saying that it is the right thing to happen, I wonder - what would your opinion be were the boot on the other foot? :rolleyes And the Umpire called over for God's sake: Nasser Hussain just said so!!

It's completely against the spirit of the game.

Oh, just saw that. Ridiculous appeal that. Absolutely agree with Sourav. He's making some great points. If we're playing this way and get such wickets, we should make ourselves assure that it will come back to us. Umpires should just overturn this. No need to ask captains actually.

I think it was a desperate, under-handed move to appeal and it's disappointing to see but certain members of our current national team don't really have a leg to stand on.

In the unlikely event that Bell gets his way, the Indian reaction will be hilarious.

Some sense from an Indian fan. Thank you.

I hope the decision gets reversed 'cause this is bull.

I wouldn't overturn it. It's unsportsman like, but not illegal.

By all means, condemn Dhoni and co. for being bad sports, and if the India team feels guilty and wants to call Bell back, let them. But don't overturn the decision. It isn't a wrong decision. It's correct by the laws of the game.

Precisely. No run was being attempted, the Indians must know that.

They were in their rights to appeal and it was careless of Bell, but the fact that they pursued the appeal shows they were desperate.

IF they go on to win then this will sour that. They have had plenty of chance to settle the situation

Precisely. They honestly thought play had come to a conclusion. For me the fact that the Umpire called over means that whatever happens after that is neither here nor there. It's like when the offside flag goes up in football - it doesn't matter that the striker is then hauled down in the box.

What a load of rubbish. This is going to piss England's bowlers off now - when India do go into bat, expect some fizzers, that's all I'd say.

I have been watching cricket since around 1990 - and I've never seen anything like this before.

This will draw this England team together like nothing else. A win is going to mean so much more now, to either side.

It wouldn't be an English cricket summer if there wasn't a touring sub-continent team mucking around with under-handed tactics.
