England In India - October 2011/12

Does he always bowl that slowly at the start of an innings? Kumar and he must be one of the slowest opening pairs going..

It's a shame that Strauss went to that shot because that is usually his bread-and-butter pull shot. Zaheer Khan has indeed bowled well and has impressive figures thus far.

Zaheer picks up speed as he progresses. He is coming in after a good layoff also (yes he bowled in that Somerset match but still he didnt get his flow back in that match and didnt bowl in the 2nd innings).

Ishant getting in the groove. I'm liking this.

Still eager to see if PK can still get some swing. Zak's getting some wobble.

Ishant is the guy to bowl now with both right handers in the crease. Hope Ishant can reprise something close to that spell to Ponting.

Y'know, if I were Zak, I'd roll over a few left arm spinners to KP early just for the lulz. Shorten the runup, come around the wicket, toss up some finger spinners. Will annoy him, be a slant on his ego, and might even get a rash shot or two. And it'll be epic lulz.

Is it fair to say that Indian fans (and all non-English fans in general) rate Kevin Pietersen slightly too highly? I remember he commanded a seven-figure contract in one of the IPLs, the other year but I'm not sure whether or not that is an indication of how highly KP is rated overseas.

Maybe you guys rate him a little too low because you don't have that British connect with him.:pj/k

I think Pietersen is rated high enough for his stature. He is a dangerous player and can hurt the opposition if he is let to stay far too long.

I don't rate him. Strauss, Cook, Trott, Bell and Morgan worry me more from this lineup.

It's usually important to get Pietersen out quickly. He is increasingly making it easier for opponents, but it's still true. If he bats for a couple of hours, it's likely that he will also get on top of the bowlers.

That's interesting.

Personally, I think he is a very enigmatic player but I would agree with Zoraxdoom in saying that Cook, Trott and Bell are the ones to worry the opposition. Strauss is slightly out of nick and Eoin Morgan is still unproven at Test level, in my opinion.

It is a bit like the situation with Yuvraj Singh and Yusuf Pathan. I see them get absolutely slated on these boards and yet, from what I remember of them, they are world-class players. I don't see a terrible lot of them, mind, but the innings I remember are Yuvraj's 36-over against Stuart Broad and Pathan's 37-ball century in the IPL.

Yuvi gets a lot of unfair flak, he's a world class ODI player. He's failed quite a bit in Tests though.

Yusuf's nothing but a high calibre slogger. Love the guy, but keep him far away as possible from the test side. He's done what's needed of him in ODIs though.

Zak and PK are off the field. Hmm. Bhajji and Ishant to operate for a while it seems. Ishant still struggling for rhythm.

----------

Oh, PK's on. And swing from ball one :D

Hope he uses the inswinger.

Dhoni comes up to the stumps as Pietersen decides to "lunge" down the track at Kumar.

He comes down the track to Shaun Tait's 95mph bouncers, KP.

11-7-9-2 for Zak. Insane.
And PK's gone for 36 in 12. Getting picked off a bit more with the older ball, despite still swinging it.

Zaheer needs to have a fresh spell now. Ishant bowled good for an over or two, but he has been pretty listless. Praveen has been swinging it but his pace is too friendly for these guys out there and with the older ball, his skills seem diminished.
