The Natwest Series
4th ODI
England v India
The Oval, London

oval.jpg

Another dark and gloomy day here at the Oval as England face India in this crucial match for both teams. England are second in the points table with six points, while India are bottom with just two points.

Conditions: Cloudy, Cool, and a very a good chance of some rain, though there is a strong wind pushing the clouds fast, and even if it does rain, it shouldnt a long shower, but a short one. Lets just hope we dont have an abandoned match today.

Pitch: A beautiful wicket, with something in it for both batsman and bowlers. However, it would be favourable to bowl first on this wicket.

Toss: India won the toss, and the captain Saurav Ganguly surprisingly chose to bat first. We'll have to wait and see whether or not this gamble pays off.

Teams: England - Just one change, Trescothick returns to the side after missing the earlier games through injury.
India - Saurav Ganguly is back into the Indian side, after missing the Australia match at Taunton.

The Natwest Series
5th ODI
England v Australia
Chester-Le-Street, Durham

riverside.jpg

Welcome to the picturesque Chester-Le-Street Riverside stadium here at Durham. Today is the 5th match of Natwest Triangular series between England and Australia. Who ever wins this match will take a big step towards the final. England are top of the table with 12 points, while the Aussies are second with 10, and have played a game less than England. India is the third team in this tournament and are third with just 2 points from 3 matches.

Conditions: Sunny, Bright, Mild and very less chance of rain.

Pitch: A good wicket with normal bounce. However the wicket might assist the medium pacers and the slow bowlers. Batting first and posting a high total would be my suggestion. But the wicket will last for the entire 100 overs, so the toss is not that crucial.

The Toss: Michael Vaughan won the toss and elected to bat first.

The Teams: England playing the same side that beat India at The Oval.
Australia are resting Glen McGrath for this game, and he will be replaced by Andy Bichel.

SCORE UPDATE
End of Match
Australia 177-9 in 46.4 Overs

Australia win by one wicket

It was a fasinating game between these two arch rivals. Batting first England only managed to score 176. A disappointing performance by Vaughan and his team, with Strauss top scoring with 34, followed by Ian Blackwell 32. Cameron White picked up three wickets while Andy Bichel and Andrew Symonds each picked up a couple. In reply Australia lost Gilchrist early for 24. After that Ponting and Hayden had taken Australia to a comfortable position before Ponting was dismissed by Blackwell. This sparked an England comeback and an Australian collapse, who then lost Hayden, Clarke, Symonds, and Martyn within no time. Soon Australia found themselves at 113-6 after being 80-1 at one stage. However, Ian Harvey and Cameron White took the Aussies past 150, before both of them were dismissed in quick succession. Australia still needed 20 odd runs to win, when Andy Bichel was also dismissed. It was no down to the last two, Gillespie and Lee, who slowly and steadily and under extreme pressure moved towards the target. Ian Blackwell had two close shouts for LBW, but both were turned down by umpire David Shepherd. Then Gillespie hit a four over sqraure leg to level the scores, before taking a single on the next delivery to win the match for the Aussies. Australia therefore winning at the end, by just one wicket, and 20 balls to spare. England will have to happy with the single bonus point. However Michael Vaughan praised his teams effort.
"It was always going to be difficult to defend such a small score, but we really came very close to pulling out a sensational victory. It was a good performance by our bowlers and fielders."
