England Team Discussion

It's the same problem SA had. With the pitches we had we couldn't get any decent spinners. Luckily with Kingsmead we've managed to get a couple rough gems...

Did I dream that Ryan Sidebottom retired from all cricket about a month ago? Thought I'd read about it, but he was opening the bowling today.

Chris Wood was off the field today for Hampshire today and Liam Dawson wasn't bowling for some reason, may be more additions to the extending Hampshire injury list. Could however force Crane into the side earlier in the season than expected which will be interesting.

Looks like Mark Wood won't play for England this summer. Plunkett could be sitting in the 12th man seat at the minute. I'd have him above Woakes, Jordan or Footitt.

So Sam Robson and Trott score doubles. Vince gets a hundred and Compton got a first ball. Things are heating up...

I see the plan to let teams bowl first without a toss has gone well. Roads everywhere. :facepalm

What's up with that? Why aren't there any tosses...

Good unit, dont know what the ECBs issue with Finn is, can be an excellent bowler on his day.
Ben Duckett is one to watch out for but he currently has 1 score in div 2, he is miles away from the team in all formats. If Davies could get the gloves for Surrey he would be an option, I still dont have an issue with Read playing and Ali can bat 7, but currently BAirstow gets in as a batsman so he will keep

Finn was so quick when he first arrived then they absolutely low balled him half way through an ashes series and have just kept doing it to him, time and time again. Recently he gave an interview in which he stated that he has let the ecb know he'd be fit in time for the wt20 but they turned him down. They've dropped him so many times it has damaged his confidence, again, he admitted to it in an interview.

I hope they treat him well from now and use him properly in their set up.

What do you mean about Finn? I would say that Finn is one of the musts. Wouldn't say that Ali is a must. As soon as England discover a proper spinner, or if Rashid outperforms him, he's gone.

Also, test matches aren't dress rehearsals. We shouldn't be giving Duckett and Buttler one match each. Bairstow is the wicket keeper. He does the job for the series. Duckett has stopped keeping at Northants anyway.

Read above with regards to Finn.

I really don't think Bairstow is one for the future, he bit part keeper who can at times, bat well. I'd rather go with the future and that is Buttler. England's limited overs revival has been due to brave but smart and well planned selections. That should start seeping into the test selections too.

Then again, this is a battle of ideologies. I've always believed in attacking, aggressive cricket where no quarter is given. England have been too busy, especially with Strauss and Cook, playing attritional cricket, with guys who can dig in rather than wow. But this selection dilemma is a good dilemma to have lol

Actually, he made himself available after the final XV was selected and they would've therefore had to change the original squad.

As far as his bowling is concerned, I think he's bowling better than ever now and is a dead cert to play this summer if he stays fit.

Better than ever? I don't think so but definitely better than when he came back into the team after that long lay off. The way England have handled him he isn't a certainty but I hope he is. He'd be the second bowling name on my team sheet after Jimmy/Broad.

I honestly don't know what you're getting at. When fit in the last 12 months, Finn has been straight in and bowled well. You're talking about the Flower/Giles management. They are long gone.

I'm not getting at anything. Finn has been mistreated in his career. That's a fact that pundits have even brought up. But like I said, he should be back but he isn't as explosive as when he first stormed on the scene and has mentioned confidence issues time and time again. I really have no idea why you keep bringing up the same stuff when we all know what happened. SMH. Move on. Discuss something else.
