England Team Discussion

Are you reading my posts? I wouldn't pick Bell. I just think it's funny that Compton has such support given that he's sh*t.

but you said Bell would score more runs than Compton. Compton averaged 30 vs SA, not great by any means but still a benchmark Bell struggled to reach over a period of time.

Bell vs Compton's current form perhaps?

To be fair to Compton, the last time he had a run in the side, he scored two tons and started looking good, then had 2 bad games and was out of the team. He's hardly going to come out looking expansive and risking his wicket when he thinks that a couple of bad scores will result in him being dropped again. I think if he gets a decent run in the side and obviously achieves that by scoring some good runs, then that aspect of his game will improve. He'll relax more and potentially be more positive with his game.

Boring summer ahead! England will whitewash SL and PAK! Darn excited to see Aamir bowl though!!

Can I please point out that I've been calling for some time for Nick Browne to be the next opener. How many more big scores does he need to make in order to prove himself?

In 37 first-class matches, he has ten hundreds and an average of 45. The only question mark over him was whether he could go on and make those two-day double hundreds that we need occasionally, and he's just shown that as well.

Get.

Him.

In.

If the selectors were keen to bat Vince at 5 initially to protect him from the new ball, there was a case to bat Hales at 3 and pick either Browne, Robson or Lees to open. Admittedly, I'd probably go with Lees, but you can make a case for any.

But who would you drop now that hales is picked? He made a decent score in tricky conditions and Cook, as captain and someone who is a great batsman, can't be dropped just yet.

Edit: I've never liked Compton and I feel he doesn't add much to the side, maybe Hales down at 3? Browne can open or come in at 3 as he has done before.

I still don't particularly think Hales is a Test cricketer, and will stick to that impression until swayed otherwise.

That said, I'd bring him in for Compton and bat him at three for now.

Hales has done alright. I'd rather he played a more aggressive game, even during tests. No matter if he didn't always make a consistent series of scores but he has the potential to get England off to big starts.

This will be Compton's last series. Just a question of whether they'll give somebody new an opportunity if we're 2-0 up.

This is the team I'd pick for ODI series (I'd rest Root)

1. Roy
2. Hales
3. Vince
4. Morgan
5. Buttler
6. Bopara
7. Woakes
8. Jordan
9. Plunkett
10. Rashid
11. Broad

12. Bairstow
13. Ali
14. Ball
15. Overton J

I'd replace Bairstow and Broad with Billings and Mills for T20.

Can't see them going back to Bopara personally.

3. Borthwick
4. Root
5. Bairstow
6. Stokes
7. Buttler

Could be the team soon. Looks good to me.
