England Tour Of Australia 2013/14

Faulkner's innings shows how good a batsman an all-rounder he can be across all formats.

I know AUS are discussing picking a new # 6 batsman, but if they want they can keep the same set-up from the Oval test & keep Faulkner in the starting XI.
James Faulkner should at least come into consideration for the number 6 spot. He can be used as an extra bowler and can bat as well. With the way some of the Australian batsman have played in Test matches we may get more value out of playing an all-rounder at number 6 than an outright batsman.

Faulkner played rather well in the last Ashes test in England. Considering Australia haven't been able to really bat as well as they could, Faulkner could help them with that problem.

Nah well i wouldn't bat him high as # 6. Haddin would still bat their, with Faulkner staying @ # 7.

Why do Australia need another all rounder? Smith should play at 6, which means they have a second spinner and if Watson bats higher than that then they have 2 guys who can turn their arm over, which is all you need if you have 4 specialist bowlers. I don't think Haddin is good enough to bat at 6 either, if they're going to keep him in the side.

Yes they don't need to play Faulkner, preferably based on the team that played in the Oval test - for the Brisbane test Bailey would be the extra bat coming in for Faulkner.

However based on Faulkner's recent batting exploits it can be argued he could stay in the team. South Afica in the 90s i recall tended to have team packed with all-rounders. Kallis was the top order all-rounder like Watson & you had McMillan, Klusener, Pollock down the bottom half like Faulkner.

Whats up with these back problems
Starc (Won't play in the upcoming Ashes)
Bird (Not Sure will he play or not)
Pattinson (Most probably he wont play too)
Cummins (Out for a 3rd Season in a Row)
Clarke (Not Sure will he play or not)

Henriques to captain Aus A

In a perfect world i wouldn't have Henriques & Maxwell in a A-Team, but i guess with other FC matches also being played alongside this one, i guess this squad can be tolerated.

Good news for Australia since their skipper has passed the fitness test and is all set to play in the Sheffield Shield. He looks certain to feature in the Aussie squad now.

Hopefully that A side isn't a sign of who will be taking 6 spot as no one takes my fancy in that lot.

Bailey get him problem solved :D

The Ashes 2013-14 : George Bailey firms as Ashes inclusion | Cricket News | India v Australia | ESPN Cricinfo

Good signs. It has taken Inverarity & the panel long enough to recognize this. Bailey should have been playing test cricket since last home summer vs South Africa.

I am glad the selectors have looked beyond George Bailey's Domestic test average. He is in stunning form with the bat in India which was showcased with him hitting 156 in the 6th ODI, his highest score in ODIs for Australia. George Bailey will be a excellent character to have around the dressing room and I suspect he will be a lot more down to earth than some of the current players because of their big egos. George Bailey could turn out to be a Mike Hussey like addition to the team.
