England tour to South Africa December 2015/February 2016

Yea I expect the make-shift opener experiment to fail for SA in the first couple of tests, then once Cook scores in 2nd innings again - his case to be picked will almost become impossible for SA selectors to ignore. So big second dig coming up for him no doubt..

Already out for 1.

Always disappointing when you're on Tour and you get given such a weak team to face the game before the First Test. Oh wait, this is South Africa's A team? Wow.

But Hudson has warned that they may be taking a risk given the quality of the bowlers they will be up against. "England have got a nice new-ball attack so it's about whether you expose someone like Stiaan or Temba Bavuma to the new ball or whether you feel you need someone who has done the job for a long time," Hudson said.

A chorus of former players are opting for the latter. Adam Bacher, a former team-mate of Cook's, told Netwerk24 he sees Cook as a "the team's response to Australia's Chris Rogers," and said he had never encountered a player with stronger mental strength than Cook. Meanwhile Boeta Dippenaar, a former Test player, impressed the need for "specialists" at the top. Barry Richards and Paul Harris have also been among those calling for Cook's inclusion.

south Africa first class system has become very poor the quality of cricketers is poor, and if the SA A team take such a beating the alarm bells should start ringing

South Africa will be a hard nut to crack for England.Sout Africa is one of the most difficult team to defeat at their soil.Plus SA is already frustrated after loos to India. Now they will try much harder to win all games and take series 4-0.In t20 its difficult to say who can win but in tests SA will definately have a upper hand. But England has also shown good game in recent warm up matches by posing big totals.Still my fav are SA in tests and i hope they will also take t20 series.

Disagree with Botham about SA tour being the ultimate test for England. I think UAE and India are still the most difficult tours, despite not being the best teams. That win in India 3 years ago and the victory in Pakistan back in 2000 are still my favourite series victories.

On that topic, England fans, since 2000, what have been the top 5 test series victories. Mine are

1. 2012 away vs India (2-1)
2. 2000 away vs Pakistan (1-0)
3. 2005 home vs Australia (2-1)
4. 2010/11 away vs Australia (3-1)
5. 2000 home vs West Indies (3-1)

Top 4 are definite for me. Last one was more tricky. Home vs Australia in 2015, away vs SA in 2004/05, away vs West Indies 2004 and away vs Sri Lanka in 2001 were all great too.

The was not the best A team available was picked. There are better players then Hendricks,Ramela and Zondo in the system. We know why were picked and it was not for their first class averages. When 3 of your top top 6 shouldn't be in the side does it surprise anyone when they struggle?

But Ashes 2005 will be remembered for long as one of the finest contest in the history of cricket.

Could be a big blow. Saying that like time it happened we bowled Australia out for 60 ;).

It will be a blow, I see no way that they pick Footit and Finn, Woakes has for a long time been lined up as the new ball swinger replacement for jimmy, and in my view he is the best option we have my a country mile, and now he will almost certainly have his chance[DOUBLEPOST=1450896659][/DOUBLEPOST]Also could someone pin this thread pls

With Anderson confirmed out, this should be Durban lineup

1. Cook
2. Hales
3. Compton
4. Root
5. Taylor
6. Stokes
7. Bairstow
8. Ali
9. Woakes
10. Broad
11. Finn

I suppose there are two positives. Finn has recovered so quickly and looked in brilliant for against South Africa A. Also, Woakes is likely to play instead of Anderson, which makes our batting depth quite incredible. I don't remember a deeper batting lineup.

Not for England but I do recall SA having a batting lineup in early 2000's with Boje coming in at 10. Didn't help us much against warne and co thought.

From Amla's press conference and looking at the weather forecast I think SA will play the spinner so expect this team:

1.Elgar
2.Van Zyl
3.Amla
4.AB
5.Faf
6.JP
7.Bavuma
8.Steyn
9.Abbot/Radaba
10.Piedt
11.Morkel
