England

I've always understood there is a bit of a gentleman's agreement that you don't bring someone in for an injured player to replace another player who is out of form or who you don't want in the side.

This is the only thing stopping India from throwing out Sreesanth/Chawla for Praveen Kumar.

Really wish if they'd allow for a 20 man squad for the WC.

Yeah, I feel bad for the English . I like the class they bring to the game for eg : when England lost to Ireland a lesser captain might have criticized his bowlers and would have tried to discredit the Irish but not Strauss, he was perfectly calm & behaved like a gentleman at the end of the match. His composure was refreshing.

I for one am mighty disappointed. Was really looking forward to watching KP bat vs WI live. Broad too is a great bowler to watch on his day. Now all I have to look forward to from the English side is like... Strauss. Don't get me wrong, I love the way he bats, but when you compare him to a guy like KP its just not as exciting.

Haven't seen too much of Morgan though.

Who's going to be the bowling replacement?

Worst part about KP being left out is that he was not there long enough for his 'opening the batting' experiment to deemed a failure. It'll probably still be up in the air, for me I've seen enough to know he is no ODI opening batsmen, especially against the proper teams on proper wickets. He feels like a Sehwag who fails much often and is prone to getting himself out after being bogged down.

Indeed, it's a shame we won't have any real evidence to back up his place opening. He had two innings against the big sides, horrific luck against India, actually looked quite good before the freak dismissal. Against SA, well, it was a pretty poor dismissal, but given he was batting with a hernia, an injury that requires surgery, I don't think it weighs too much.

That said, it could well work in the sub-continent, but in conditions in the UK where it will do something for the first 10-15 overs, I'd rather a proper opener, who that is, I don't know. Trott may be the man for the job.

He just plays the exact same way in every position. If he tries to change he gets bogged down and plays an extra stupid shot.

At least the whole "KP carries the England batting" myth is gone, the last year if not more has shown that KP is just a cog in the machine and can be replaced with little effect either way.

Broad is the bigger loss imo

The man is tailor made for the job. He needs the time anyways and won't give his wicket away. Will allow Strauss to play a bit more shots too

Absolutely, massive part of our ODI attack. Very consistent wicket taker in ODIs and we'll struggle to replace him. Shahzad is probably more suited to the wickets than Tremlett, but we also don't really know what we'll get with Shahzad.

Maybe they'll call up Rashid/Panesar.

Who knows, I guess we'll find out tomorrow.

Tomorrow? it's on Friday, still stuck in the rat race for a few days :(

I actually thought it was looking like a good move to have KP open - despite it looking decidedly like a plan C type move. Yes, he got bogged against the Neths sure, but certainly didn't in his other efforts. Watson and Haddin got bogged down against Zim, but no one is claiming they can't open.

And only against SA did he really fail. He was in at 10 overs in the other 3 games.

The more you can get KP away from spinners, he's less likely to implode and the more you can get him hitting boundaries, I think the better he plays. So I say opening makes sense to me, especially since England can't find one.

Huge blow for England with both Broad and KP missing out.

They made the right call with Morgan coming back. England have really missed that finisher role in their games so far.

But I am dissappointed with the Tremlett pick. England already have a decent seamer in Shahzad to replace him. Since KP's gone, I was really hoping they would recall Davies and sort the opening patnership out. Never should have been dropped in the first place. I'm guessing Bopara will open now?
