England

England has the been the most entertaining side of this WC. It has been such a pleasure watching their matches. I hope they improve on their consistency and give the favorites a run for their money.

Seriously, If India don't make it, I'm rooting for England :D

It's farcical :

Should be competitive games : P4 W2 L1 T1 (Won 50.00%)
Should win games : P3 W1 L2 T0 (Won 33.33%)

I guess thanks are due to South Africa's green bottlers and West Indies bottle toppers. If those two hadn't caved under slight pressure then England would be hi-sto-ry. None of Tremlett, Tredwell or Shight had played in the World Cup previously, Tremlett may not again as I'm sure Anderson may well get an undeserved reprieve - that is assuming England go through.................

well, like I said in the thread, if I was bangladesh I would be a little hacked off at the way the windies handled that chase.

they just seemed to come out swinging and when it got a little tricky they threw their wickets away. they had no interest in winning. sarwan tried, and gayle normally plays that way, but the rest never bothered.

it's why I hate the windies now, they're quite happy being one of the worst teams in the world.

left field? it's out of the field and half-way down the M8.

I have literally no idea who that is.

I did wonder when the saffers would start getting into the bowling ranks though. they've always been known for fast bowlers (And all-rounders) so it's odd that it's always the batsmen that make the england team.

Jade Dernbach called up to England's World Cup squad | Cricket News | ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 | ESPN Cricinfo

Certainly left field and I haven't really seen much of him play but it would appear England have been following him for a while. His OD figures are very impressive and he was born in Johannesberg so we can't go wrong.

Still would have picked James Harris personally just to give him a bit of experience around the squad as he's unlikely to actually get a game.

Been playing with the Lions in WIndies and doing very well, hardly left field. It was him or Woakes if we went with a seamer.

Most people would consider it left field to throw an untried seamer into a World Cup even if they had been with the Lions.

Indeed, i would gone for Woakes. But then again i dont remember seeing how Dernbach bowls currently to say whether ive been been impressed or not with his style of bowling.

I thought Woakes would be a better option, judging by the way he bowled against Australia.

Hmm, I've seen Dernbach play quite a few times, and he's done pretty average everytime I've seen him.

Something I thought i'd share, it made me chuckle today coming home from school. A mate and I were chatting about the upcoming summer of cricket and discussing which stand we should get tickets in for the ODI against SL at Lord's (we're both U16, so it's a fiver) and I said something along the lines of, "KP will definitely play well, everytime i've seen him play, he's batted well and got a decent score", almost as soon as the words had left my mouth, a lad from the year below turned around and said "You obviously haven't seen him play much then". Incredibly quick and witty for somebody who I didn't think had much of a sense of humour before a few hours ago.

Also, anyone remember England's triumph in the WT20 in the West Indies last year, a loss against WI and a draw against Ireland left us hanging on the WI-Ireland result to get through, we did progress and from then on in we went on to win the whole thing. I wonder if any of you think that there is any chance of history repeating itself this year. This could be the beginning of big things for England, reigning WT20 Champions, and possible 50-Over World Champions and No.1 Test Nation prospects.

Likewise with Dernbach, everytime I've seen him domestically, he's struggled. His Economy rate in one day cricket shows that. But he has been doing well with the Lions by all accounts, so is one to watch, if not for the present. Seems strange that we had a few more players in that One Day squad in Australia that have been overlooked though. Be interesting to see who plays the next game.

what about Finn? I know he hasn't played odi cricket but still you'd have thought having someone involved with the squad before would have been better.
