I expected a bigger lead.. But as i predicted Gilli spoiled my expectations. Also that collapse in the end is looking to a typical Windies collapse in first match of DLF cup in real life
Anyways, the lead has provided an added advantage and England batsmen shd cleverly use this and we like to see a win from them in this test
England lose Vaughan early
Australia have struck early on here to get rid of the England captain Michael Vaughan. Brett Lee got the outside edge of Vaughan's bat and Michael Hussey picked up a simple catch.
Visitors respond through Strauss and Joyce
England have got an important partnership going between Andrew Strauss and Ed Joyce after losing the wicket of their captain Michael Vaughan early on in the innings. Both players have displayed some fine strokeplay and the Australians will be desperate for a breakthrough right now.
Strauss also got to another half century in test matches during this time.
Joyce departs
And the Aussies got that breakthrough just before the tea interval and it was their spin maestro Shane Warne who provided it. Although it was a rather risky shot played by Joyce and quite unnecessary at that point of time.
So at Tea on Day 3 England 102-2 after 32 Overs
Australia 285 all out after 93.5 Overs
England 363 all out after 111.3 Overs
(England lead by 180 runs)
Thats good display from England so far.. Now comes the crucial part of England's innings.. they have to bat till Lunch Day4 or max 1 hr after Lunch & shd look for setting 450 as target. With Kp at crease & Flintoff to come, this or even more is achievable
Strauss denied century
England opener Andrew Strauss has missed out on three figures after he went for one shot too many and ended up losing his wicket caught at long off by Michael Hussey off Michael Clarke.
It was a fine knock nevertheless and here are few glimpses of his innings since Tea.
Shane Warne grabs Pietersen wicket
Kevin Pietersen's wicket is one of the most sought after in modern day cricket and Shane Warne has got just that with his trademark flipper delivery. Pietersen has been England's best batsman this series and to get him so cheaply in this second innings will be ideal for the home side.
Freddie and Colly partnership
England needed another partnership in order to put up a tough target for the Aussies to chase. Andrew Flintoff and Paul Collingwood seem to be doing just that. They've put up 55 runs already before the close of play on day three and have taken England's lead over the Aussies to 293.
So at Stumps on Day 3 England 215-4 after 62 Overs
Australia 285 all out after 93.5 Overs
England 363 all out after 111.3 Overs
(England lead by 293 runs)
Thats unlucky way for KP to get out like that but Warne's flipper is always top class! ( probably he should be missing Tendulkar to smash him all over )
Well, this pair has to stay for atleast a hour in morning session and explode the bowling. 400+ is what England needed. They still have winning chance unless a collapse occurs on Day4 morning!
