Story England's Tour of Australia - 2005 - The Ashes

The main reason for the collapse was the right handers, im so used to using left handers i needed to get the feel back for them again, i hope i do for the 2nd innings.

England: 182 All Out

England lead by 7 runs

England struggle to 182 as they make life really hard for themselves:

This test match looked all but over half way through day 1 when England were 100 odd for just 2 wickets and now they have a mountain to climb, how easily tables can be turned is shown in this fantastic match, 19 wickets fell on day 1 with 337 runs being scored. Australia now have a lot of time to play with so expect a mammoth score from them. Big Fred and Jimmy Anderson held out for as long as they could as they added 20 runs to the overnight score of 162/9. Flintoff eventually met his downfall as Gillespie picked up his 4th wicket of the match, Freddie was trying to slog him for 6 and missed the line of the ball, it was total demoliton as the Aussie pace bowlers ran riot today. England will we looking to do the same, lets hope they can and take a 2-0 lead in the 5 match series.

Excellent - roll on the vids (Well - not literally!) I agree about the stories. I'm spending as much time reading them than I am playing the game at the moment.

Australia:
88/4 & 175 All Out

England: 182 All Out

D Lehmann: 8*
M Clarke: 2*

Autralia lead by 81 runs

Hoggard and Harmison in the wickets as Australia try and build a defendable total:

Once again Australia have given themselves it all to do in the second innings here at Perth, Hoggard has been the main wicket taker once again dismissing two batsmen with Harmison picking out just the one. The Aussies need to find a way to combat this wicket-taking machine as he is frequently dismissing one if not both of the openers for low scores or ducks, this happened again today as Hayden was cramped up and an inswinger took a thick outside edge and flew away to the slips, Graham Thorpe took a comfortable waist height catch as Hayden looked on in dispair. A good opening spell from Steve Harmison re-enforced the early wicket by Hoggard and these two are becoming quite a decent new ball partnership.

Damien Martyn is unlucky to be called out as Hoggard takes his bails:

Captain Ponting and remaining opener Justin Langer put on a decent partnership and looked strong after an early blip, until Ponting got out. Hoggard bowled a back of a length inswinger that seemed to jump out of the pitch and surprise Ponting who didn?t do much wrong with the delivery, he was on the back foot allowing the ball enough time to nip away and take the edge but it didn?t end there, a catch still had to be made and what a catch it was, Graham Thorpe took it diving high to his left with both hands, Hoggard was ecstatic as he raced to hug his team mate, a good wicket saw Ponting gone for 20. Langer was going well at this point on 30.

Ponting clips one square of leg on his way to a battling 20 before being removed by the unstoppable Matthew Hoggard:

Australia were looking shaky at 42/2 and needed a good partnership to make sure they gave England a good total to chase so the runout of Martyn didn?t help the cause. He hammered the first ball for 4 and tried to run a quick single on his second, he drove it straight to Vaughan and was slow to set of, this allowed Vaughan to make a fast low throw to the bowlers end and the half chance went to the third umpire who gave it out, maybe a tad unlucky but after a silly run what do you expect? Harmison dismissed Langer soon afterwards, a well placed bouncer saw him cut it over the slips but not over Hoggard who took a superb catch after making some fantastic ground. Australia are struggling at lunch on 88/4 but have Adam Gilchrist next in to bat so need to have people sticking in and around him and not taking any risks to make a big score.

Just realised that in the 2nd pic of Matty Hayden (which you named as Ricky Ponting), there is no shadow of the batsman, but only of the bar.

Anyways, good bowling on your side, to have reduced Aus to 88-4. Two or three quick wickets in the 2nd session could put the Aussies under a lot of pressure.

England require 158 runs to win

Flintoff and Anderson demolish the middle and lower order as Aussies stare down the barrel of yet another home defeat:

England edged that much closer to that ever elusive Ashes series win by skittling the world number 1's for just 164, another very low total in what has been a low scoring match, so far 30 wickets have fallen in one and a half days play and only 421 runs over three innings, England wont care however, a win here means that they lead the series 2-0 so the Aussies would need to win the next three in a row and in current form the only thing that looks like happening is a series whitewash by England who haven't lost a match on this tour a of yet. England tried a bolwing change after lunch and it worked a treat, the ever dependable Freddie Flintoff taking a wicket in his first over, that of Michael Clarke for just 2, the ball taking an edge to the slips and Vaughan taking a great catch, the only downside to this wicket was the introduction of Adam Gilchrist.

Gilchirst goes for only 16 as Anderson collects three wickets in what was a good spell of bowling:

The England duo of Anderson and Flintoff had the better of him in what was a reasonalbly short stay, 16 runs scored form 45 balls and a wicket whilst he was at the crease, Darren Lehmann trying to run a quick single against Vaughan who had moved back to cover point, it wasnt as close this time and Lehmann was left well short of his ground. Jimmy Anderson got his rewards for pinning the Aussie wicket keeper down, a well placed yorker had him struggling a ball before the England youngster made him play at a boucer seaming away from him, Gilchrist just left his bat hanging after a false shot and the nick was taken high above his head by Ashley Giles in the last ball of the over, Anderson was ecstatic. More was to come for him though as he dimsmissed Jason Gillespie with a wonderfull outswinger to the right hander that was too good fro him in the end.

Jones takes a wonderfull catch behind the stumps after having to change direction sharply showing that Gilchrist is not the only world class wicket keeper on the pitch as Jason Gillespie falls for a first ball golden duck:

Shane Warne and Brett Lee shared a decent stand together adding 38 runs between them before Anderson produced another corking delivery that jumped out of the pitch again, comming across Warne, he tried to guide it over the top of the slips but only suceeded in finsing the hands of Ashley Giles. Brett Lee followed shortly after as he was Caught by Tresothick from the bowling of Flintoff, England only require a small number of runs and they have 3 days to do it so they need to take thier time and stay at the crease, if the runs dry up it doesent matter so long as the wikets dont tumble.
