Apologies for lack of Updates been relatively busy lately. with all the over time at work

So with the toss decided and England to bat first, the much anticipated series was underway. Skipper Andrew Strauss came out with Alastair Cook beaming with confidence. That very same confidence almost disappeared in the second over when a very close lbw decision was turned down after Cook was pinned on the crease. The Englishmen had a relatively slow start to their innings but runs started to come eventually.

England Were cruising at around four an over even with a few lucky breaks for Strauss as he was nearly runout one ball and then lucky not to be bowled the next. Australia finally struck in the 11th over, however through the bowling of pace spearhead Mitchell Johnson, trapping Cook on the crease plum lbw for 27 off 43 balls with the score at 1/46. Strauss went second ball next over after mistiming a straight drive back to Ben Hilfenhaus who took the catch with little difficulty. This had Strauss gone for 14 off just 31 deliveries leaving england searching for answers at 2/46.

The dramas kept coming for England as Ravi Bopara was run out for 2 by a brilliant throw from Peter Siddle. 3/51 and England were staring down a barrel at this point. Ponting then tried a bowling change, an unorthodox one to be exact bringing in Michael Hussey to throw down a few medium pacers. It wasnt long before he had clean bowled Paul Collingwood for 4. And to make matters worse for the hosts they lost keeper Matt Prior for 1 to be caught and bowled off the bowling of Siddle.

Star batsman and prolific allrounder Pieterson and flintoff looked to rebuiled the innings as they managed to keep the hosts innings alive by stay not out in an unbeaten 46 run partnership by lunch. The partnership however didnt stay on for much longer as Pieterson was next to go for 37 off 59 after being cleanly bowled by Haurtiz after the ball had awkwardly spun and bounced to confuse the batsman. Stuart Broad didnt offer much resistance as he found the same fate as Pieterson, bowled, again by Hauritz, for 3 off just 9 balls.

Flintoff then combined with Graeme Swann for a 40 run partnership which included a very slow 50 for Freddie. His 50 coming off 102 balls. As England fans were again finding something to cheer for, Flintoff had himself runout by Hauritz after some confusion between the batsmen. Swann too found himself runout shortly after by the arm of Marcus North for 19 and very next ball Hilfenhaus had Ryan Sidebottom caught behind for 8, bringing and end to a very dismal performance by the English. They were toppled over for 186 from 48 overs. with a run rate of 3.88.

Ill Post the scorecards in next update as i havent had time to do them.
