12 Overs

England 30-1
Strauss 14* (35)
Butcher 0* (4)
Trescothick 16 (33)

Zoysa 1-9

In an eventfull opening 12 overs, England saw off the new ball before Trescothick cut one straight into the hands of Dharmasena off the bowling of Zoysa. Before though he played two glorious shots for 4, but England are in a pretty strong position and will look to continue.

Day 1 Lunch

Day 1 Lunch

England 73-2
Strauss 37* (71)
Vaughan 11* (36)
Butcher 9 (22) st Sangakkara b Dharmasena

Dharmasena 1-21
Zoysa 1-9

Richie Benaud: "Well at lunch England have reached a respectable score of 73-2"

Mark Nicholas: "Thanks Richie, yes England have played quite well out there, its interesting to see that Muralitharan has not been introduced into the attack yet but other spinners like Dharmasena and Samaweera have been and have got a lot of spin from the pitch and that was shown with Butcher's dismissal"

Dermot Reeve: "Yes that was a beauty, Butcher came down the pitch and was completely beaten by the spin, brilliant deilvery"

Mark Nicholas: "Lets talk about how well Andrew Strauss has played, he has been very patient out there and I cant remember a time when he was beaten by pace or spin"

Dermot Reeve: "No he has played very well, and if England are to make a big score here, they will be looking for contributions from the 2 players currently at the crease"

Day 1 Tea

Day 1 Tea

England 139-3
Strauss 68* (158)
Thorpe 5* (32)
Vaughan 40 (86) c Jayasuriya b Samaraweera

Samaraweera 1-35
Zoysa 1-18

Richie Benaud: "So another tight session here at Colombo, with only 68 runs in the session and 1 wicket falling for England, the spinners were used a lot in this session, and finally we got to see Muralitharan"

Mark Nicholas: "Yes thanks Richie, well England have played out another session with quite good success, only the loss of captain Michael Vaughan put a negative on the session, but Strauss remains at the crease and scored a brave 50 and with Thorpe he has a good partner"

Dermot Reeve: "Yes, and looking back at that session, and in particular the Vaughan dismissal, that is the second time a player has got out to that shot in the match, so maybe the ball is not coming on to the bat as fast as the batters expect"

Mark Nicholas: "Yes good point there, something to look at as this match goes on"

End Of Day 1

Stumps - Day 1

England 220-4
Strauss 115* (249)
Flintoff 26* (50)
Thorpe 11 (55) Run Out

Richie Benaud: "Well thats stumps on Day 1 with England in a pretty decent position at 220-4. Strauss has played quite magnificently today scoring his century, and if it were not for him then England would be in quite a lot of trouble."

Mark Nicholas: "Thanks Richie, yes well its been quite a day for Andrew Strauss, scoring his first century outside of England, and in a tough place such as Sri Lanka too. Michael Atherton is down at pitch side with the centurian."

Michael Atherton: "Well Andrew its been quite a day for you"

Andrew Strauss: "Yea it has, its been very tough out there, the heat is unbearable at times, but ive managed to see it through and got a good score on the board."

Michael Atherton: "Yes you certinally have but from the team's perspective what sort of score would you like to have on the board?"

Andrew Strauss: "Well a lot of our top order has struggled apart from Vaughney, but hopefully myself and Freddie can continue tomorrow and we could look at around 400 on this pitch which would be very good"

Michael Atherton: "Well, well played today Andrew, and good luck for tomorrow"

Andrew Strauss: "Thanks mate"

Mark Nicholas: "Well Andrew Strauss there, brilliant stuff from him today, now lets go down to Dermot Reeve who i think has Sanath Jayasuriya with him"

Dermot Reeve: "Yes thanks Mark, Sanath, how has the day gone for you and the team?"

Sanath Jayasuriya: "Well, we are dissapointed that we have not picked up more wickets, the spinners have bowled very well and got a lot of turn but our bowlers have only taken 3 wickets and the other a run out so we will be looking for more from them tomorrow and hopefully we can knock over England in the morning"

Dermot Reeve: "Does it look a good batting pitch for you?"

Sanath Jayasuriya: "Ermm yes I think that Strauss showed today that if you get yourself in then you can make a good score, hopefully I will get a chance to bat tomorrow and get a good score"

Dermot Reeve: "Well, good luck Sanath"

Sanath Jayasuriya: "Yes, thank you"

Mark Nicholas: "Well there you have it, England have just edged the day, but will the Sri Lankans come back with a vengance tomorrow? We shall see"

Day 2 Update

England 328 All Out
Strauss 116
Flintoff 79
Vaughan 40

Vaas 3-105
Zoysa 2-48
Dharmasena 2-67

Well in an eventfull opening session on Day 2, England have been bowled out for 328, losing there last 6 wickets for 108 runs, most of which were score by Flintoff. Strauss added 1 to his overnight score before getting out, and the rest of the batsmen fell cheaply. A lot of runs came from edges from the lower order, but all helped England to a respectable score in the end....

The roster you're using has the wrong bats. You can correct this through player editor. There's a list around somewhere of who uses what (or just check the updated roster.pak)

Day 2 Lunch

Day 2 Lunch

Sri Lanka 7-2
Sangakkara 0 (15)
Jayawardene 0 (6)

Hoggard 1-4
Harmison 1-3

Richie Benaud: "Well that brings to end a very exciting opening session on Day 2, with a total of 8 wickets falling in it, and quite a few runs too, lets see what our guys up in the studio think"

Mark Nicholas: "Yes thanks Richie......well what a session of cricket, England have the edge claiming those vital wickets of both openers for ducks and no batsmen is yet to get off the mark with every run so far coming from a no ball."

Dermot Reeve: "Well it has been very entertaining stuff, the wickets for the Sri Lankans were very soft, Atapattu edging one straight into slips from the extra delivery of the Hoggard over and Jayasuriya mis-timing a hook straight into the hands of Hoggard, who made a great catch. England deffinately on top now and if they can grab some quick wickets after lunch, they are deffinantely in a good position to win the match.
