If England do actually become the dominant side in international cricket (if... I said if!) will Hildreth end up in the same category as a Lehman or Hodge?

I doubt it really. Lehmann and Hodge get such a great reputation from doing the business both in England and Australia. Without Hildreth having the chance to do that, he'll just be seen as a decent player, rather than a really dominant one like those two were. I'm not saying that he's not very good, but he'll just be written off for only doing it for Somerset.

Well it was his first T20 century, saw it all, really interesting innings.

Lets see how he goes for the remainder of the season in the shorter formats IMO.

Why? It doesn't matter. He's been brilliant in the last few years and got no where near a look in for England. It doesn't matter what he does, he's not going to get a chance. I'm just pointing out that the people who watch him at Somerset, know how good he is in any form of the game. He hasn't just suddenly turned up and been good in the Championship for a little while, he's been at the top of the averages in a team featuring Trescothick, Compton, Kieswetter and Buttler, in all forms of cricket at various times in the last few years.

Fair enough. I've always rated him, for the test side, i think him and his county colleague were very unlucky to be overlooked for the vacant # 6 spot that went to Bairstow.

However with the limited overs teams, just suggesting given that i'm dont see him at somerset like a native like yourself, i would want to see him play more T20 innings like that for the season, since it was his first hundred in that format.

Cricket fest the next couple of days, with the 4 quarter finals of the T20 cup. Trescothick back for Somerset too, so we should be putting out a strong side on paper. Just hope we step up and deliver.

Adams is topping the CC wickets again, and Styris would be one of the first NZ batsmen that I pick for limited overs cricket. If you chuck Vincent in there as well, then we'd actually have a half decent team. It's just a shame that there's so many problems with NZ cricket, so these guys go offshore and in Styris' case much a lot of money for doing nothing in the IPL and only have to play in a handful of T20 matches here.

Incredible knock. As you say, it's a shame the likes of him and Andre Adams (didn't he have disciplinary issues when in the NZ team?) aren't playing at a higher level right now.

I think he just got old and realised he'd rather do this sort of thing than play another world cup, or more likely, get dropped for being old one or two years before the world cup.

Also, I've got to say I was underwhelmed by the over. Yuvraj vs Broad was amazing, but this was just some no balls and a short straight boundary. Styris certainly hit enough crunchy sixes to make it a crushing over, but in another life he could have gotten out pretty easily. Riding your luck is very much cricket but not always record breaking cricket.

Yeah the Yuvraj over is ridiculous, he hits balls for six that have no right to get hammered that high.

The potential of Woakes is very exciting. England need either or Bresnan (preferably both) to develop into the new Flintoff. Since if the test side is going to go to a next level - playing 5-bowlers regularly may become important.

Not sure why Boyd Rankin is being talked up as future England player. ATM i would say the bowling depth is good enough we don't need him. Hopefully he stays with Ireland who are building a decent team.

Along with Owais Shah, Trego is unluckiest player not to be picked in England 30-man provision T20 world cup squad.

Gutted for Worcs to have lost the t20 quarter-final :( Thought this year might have been the year we ended our wait for a trophy after the Pro40 win in 2007. Focus now has to be on the County Championship and surviving the drop. CB40 has no real importance, it's a nothing competition. I'd take finishing bottom of our group if we stayed in Division 1.

They have to be on the fringe of our T20 set-up. One who can work the field better than anyone else in the country, and the other who is the nearest thing we have to a top AR.

Indeed, England have missed a trick by not picking them in the T20 squad.
