Phillip Hughes - What a legend!
- After his first season of first-class cricket (as an 18 year old), he was averaging 56 in the strongest first-class system in the entire world. He scored his only hundred in the Pura Cup final, against a comprising attack of Peter Siddle, Dirk Nannes, Shane Harwood, Bryce McGain and Andrew McDonald - All of who would've played International cricket after the Twenty20 World Cup this year. Hughes was the youngest player in over 100 years of Sheffield Sheild cricket to score a hundred in the final. Younger then all Bradman, Border, Chappell, Waugh, Hayden & Ponting.
- Before his Test debut, Hughes was averaging 58 in first-class cricket. His first-class average grew above 60 after his 1st Test series in International cricket against South Africa in the most difficult batting conditions in world cricket.
- His currently played 3 Test matches, scored 2 hundreds, with 415 runs @ 69.16 - All of his runs have come in South Africa, against the best fast bowler in the world (Dale Steyn), in the most difficult conditions for an Opening Batsman in world cricket. Every Australian batsman struggled when Hughes wasn't at the crease and Hughes made bowler-friendly conditions look like a flat-track in the subcontient with his sublime strokeplay. He also became the youngest player in Test Cricket to score twin hundreds in a Test match (Breaking George Headley's record in the 1920s). It should also be mentioned that he debuted at a younger age then what Sir Donald Bradman did aswell.
- Since his Test debut, Hughes' first-class average has gone from being a very respectable 58 to an unbelievable 66.22, from 23 first-class matches, featuring 9 hundreds and 2384 runs. Unbelievable stuff.
