Andrew Strauss' name doesn't have deserve to be uttered in the same sentence as Phillip Hughes.
Unless that sentence is of course

Andrew Strauss who scored 150 in less time than it took Hughes to score 99 :p

Strauss > Hughes. Hughes out for 139 from 228 balls. Malan got a first baller :( Eion Morgan going nicely though, 55* from 92 balls. Really starting to turn potential into runs!

Cook at it again. Gets to 43 and gets out this time. Parnell started well for Kent as well, 2/24 from 9, getting Chopra and Mickleburgh.

Phillip Hughes - What a legend!

- After his first season of first-class cricket (as an 18 year old), he was averaging 56 in the strongest first-class system in the entire world. He scored his only hundred in the Pura Cup final, against a comprising attack of Peter Siddle, Dirk Nannes, Shane Harwood, Bryce McGain and Andrew McDonald - All of who would've played International cricket after the Twenty20 World Cup this year. Hughes was the youngest player in over 100 years of Sheffield Sheild cricket to score a hundred in the final. Younger then all Bradman, Border, Chappell, Waugh, Hayden & Ponting.

- Before his Test debut, Hughes was averaging 58 in first-class cricket. His first-class average grew above 60 after his 1st Test series in International cricket against South Africa in the most difficult batting conditions in world cricket.

- His currently played 3 Test matches, scored 2 hundreds, with 415 runs @ 69.16 - All of his runs have come in South Africa, against the best fast bowler in the world (Dale Steyn), in the most difficult conditions for an Opening Batsman in world cricket. Every Australian batsman struggled when Hughes wasn't at the crease and Hughes made bowler-friendly conditions look like a flat-track in the subcontient with his sublime strokeplay. He also became the youngest player in Test Cricket to score twin hundreds in a Test match (Breaking George Headley's record in the 1920s). It should also be mentioned that he debuted at a younger age then what Sir Donald Bradman did aswell.

- Since his Test debut, Hughes' first-class average has gone from being a very respectable 58 to an unbelievable 66.22, from 23 first-class matches, featuring 9 hundreds and 2384 runs. Unbelievable stuff.

Phillip Hughes > Anyone thats represented England in cricket since Jack Hobbs.

Onions bowling quite magnificently at the moment, he certainly seems to have the quality to suceed at international level.

Themer added 0 Minutes and 30 Seconds later...

Oh and theres another, he's got a 5'ver

Another 100 for Hughes geez you gotta love that guy :)
Onions certainly is going well back to back 5 fers. Noffke hasn't reached his usual high standards.

Just found that Hughes is only the 2nd Aussie to score 100s in his first two County matches.

Thank god Harmison wasn't selected for the Test squad he's been very poor in this match, spraying it everywhere with no real pace either.

Good day with the bat for Kent today means I get an unexpected trip to Chelmsford tomorrow. Game could go all 3 ways, didn't think there would be much chance of a trip out after day 2 that's for sure!

Thank god Harmison wasn't selected for the Test squad he's been very poor in this match, spraying it everywhere with no real pace either.

He bowled well today. It's very much a Rhythm thing with Steve. His action is quite poor meaning he needs alot of overs to get into the required rhythm and to get his accuracy and pace. Come 3-4 weeks and he'll be bowling consistently 87mph+ with good accuracy and the Harmison we know and love will be on show!

He did bowl well today/better I have to say but I just get the same feeling as with Hoggard that he just doesn't cut it anymore at International level. I'm looking foward to seeing Onions play was very impressed the other day on such a flat pitch as it was proved.

I agree. I think Harmison is still a devastating bowler on the county circuit but I don't think we'll ever see the old Harmi on the international circuit, he'll do a job but its probably time to move on.

Actually its past that time, but nobody except Peter Moores seemed to want to draw a line under it, and that got him nowhere except fired.

Did any of the matches get a win? Most of the ones I saw were all draws. Hughes even had to do some bowling cause he was that bored in the field!

Erm Glous beat Northants, but some matches don't finish til tomorrow so there is still hope for some.

Draws are pretty common this time of year in county cricket, not that they are uncommon for the rest of the season!
