Fifa 2010 World Cup: Round of 16

Since the group stages are almost done and dusted, I thought I'd open this one with a fun little article about England v Germany:

Tomorrow first matches will be Uruguay vs South Korea and USA vs Ghana.

On Sunday it will be Argentina vs Mexico and England vs Germany.

On Monday it will be the Netherlands vs Slovakia and Paraguay vs Japan.

On Tuesday it will be Brazil vs Chile and Portugal vs Spain.

Spain Vs Portugal. WOW!

Damn this looks epic. Portugal has been solid in defense so far, and Spain should really threaten them. Both teams are a few of my favorites, really looking forward to this one.

Looks like Germany's Brazilian won't be playing - he's picked up an abdominal strain. They're more hopeful about Schweinsteiger and Boateng, but if all three don't play, that will be a real knock to Germany.

Lucky break for Uruguay. Korea looks to have a pretty compact defense.

Hmm, well, after the first ten minutes, Uruguay looks to be dominating this game. They look much more threatening going forward and are losing the ball far less than Korea in the final third of the pitch.

I don't know about that. Two good teams can often cancel each other out, and I do expect Portugal to defend well.

I'm sure it will be better than any of Engurland's games though.:sarcasm

Umm, I'd rather watch England v Slovenia again that sit through that Portugal v Brazil dross again. :sarcasm

Uruguay won by two goals of Suarez. The transfer price must have risen for him. Manchester United wanted him.

That second goal by Suarez was an absolute peach.

He has scored many goals like that by FC Groningen and Ajax. I saw he was going inwards and knew what he was going to do.

He does miss a lot of easy chances though. Even today he messed up three decent opportunities.

Even if he misses, he scores a lot. I believe he has scored more then 50 goals in all competitions for Ajax only this year. Not many strikers can say that.
