You say five i say none. IPL is the only T20 tournament in india where indian youngsters can develop . more overseas players mean less indians which can lead to lack of players for india in t20 in future...
Australia have about 1-2 overseas players in their teams that is why even some of their domestic cricketers are better than Some international players.

Well, being a Delhi Daredevils' fan, I personally feel that 5 Overseas Players should be allowed.
Delhi simply cannot figure out the best combination between David Warner, Tillakaratne Dilshan, AB de Villiers, Daniel Vettori and Dirk Nannes!

David Warner could have been left out, but due to the bad form of Sehwag and Gambhir during Season 2, the confusion arised.

But, as this is INDIAN Premier League, four overseas players are enough!
We need to give opportunities to the Indian Youth, rather than commercialising it more.

It should only be one, that's all we have in our New Zealand competition. :sarcasm

See that face at the end, sarcasm...

TBH, I don't really care. 4/5, it's not going to make the world of difference.
Just stick a vote to the eight owners, managers, coaches if needed.

I think that 4 overseas are enough because the overseas players don't really need to perform in this league. The domestic players need it more because they would like to perform against the international players and impress the selectors.

Why we need 5? We should have 10 overseas player. :p . As the name suggest Indian Premier League, we shouldn't have more than 2 foreign players.

Use the SuperSub rule, IMO. I wrote an article about it last year.

Four overseas players is enough in the playing XI. No need to change the rule.

No need for any change. This is a tournament for the Indian players. The current international stars are bringing in enough hype and popularity and also the quality of the domestic players is bound to improve a lot since they are playing alongside international stars. With more IPL's, the quality of cricket might improve

John Buchanan, World Cup, Champions Trophy and Ashes winning former coach of Australia and current coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders recently called out to the IPL for the rules to be adjusted to allow more international players per playing XI. He received an almost instant denial from Lalit Modi, Chairman and Commissioner of the Indian Premier League, Modi saying that as the 'Indian' Premier League it was meant to unearth local talent.

An alternative to allow an extra overseas player but maintain the current 7 Indian players in a side is the Super-Sub, a rule trialled by the ICC a few years ago allowing teams to take 12 players into a match, eleven of whom bat and eleven who field. A similar strategy could be used in the IPL, with the following guidelines:

-Each team can enter a match with 12 (possibly more) players, 11 of whom can bat and 11 that can field/bowl
-There must be at least seven Indian players that do both
-Four International players can bat and four can bowl or be on the field at any time.

eg. Delhi Daredevils Line-up

Virender Sehwag
Gautam Gambhir
Tillakaratne Dilshan (int.)
AB Devilliers (int.)
Dinesh Kartik
Manoj Tiwary
Daniel Vettori (int.)
Amit Mishra
Ashish Nehra
Pradeep Sangwan
Dirk Nannes (int.)

Super-Sub-David Warner

When Delhi bat Dirk Nannes could be substituted with David Warner, so that Delhi would have four international batsman, and when they bowl Warner could be substituted with AB Devilliers so Delhi have four international bowling options. Devilliers can field (or possibly bowl) only if he replaces an international player eg Dilshan

Therefore the seven Indian players are maintained but an extra international player comes into the mix. I think this would definitely boost interest in the competition, and make it even more of a 'Premier' League.

4 players are enough. The owner should pick 4 awesome players and maybe 4 players who are developing into superstars. You can't pick 10 of the best cricketers in the world and then expect all of them to play together. This can't happen.

Dhoni is the smartest captain in the IPL, IMO. He's got the best Indian players in his franchise. And decent Int's. It all balances really well. And it is completely opposite for Delhi & Kolkata, and its the worst for Deccan.
