Fletcher - Flintoff let me down

I don't care what anyone says, I will never be shaken in my belief that Duncan Fletcher is a world-class coach and did a brilliant job for England. Remember when he took over, England were bottom of Wisden's Unofficial World Rankings, and within a few short years they had regained the Ashes, not to mention the 7-0 summer, the Away wins in South Africa and the West Indies, etc etc.

He wasn't helped by the ECB letting Troy Cooley go to Australia. And yes, he made some mistakes (Giles in for Panesar one of the biggest), but who doesn't?

I'd like to point out that he wasn't the only person involved in deciding that Giles would play in Austalia.

No he wasn't. Flintoff and him decided between them.

Fletcher was a great coach. He helped us beat the Aussies in 2005. As Freddiefan says he made mistakes but overall he is one of the best coaches England ever had.

I think Flintoff let everyone down in the World Cup and brought discretion into the camp and help to the down fall in the world cup no doubt.

I heard it was Fletcher deciding with a committee between the senior players - Flintoff, Jones, Giles and Strauss. Obviously having 2 of the players under consideration doesn't work.

It was said at the time that the Coach and the Captain were trusted with making selection descions since the chairman of selections David Graveney wasn't traveling to Australia with the team.

Captain's get far too much say in team selection in my opinion. It should be down to the coach and the coach alone who plays in the final team. Or at least in discussion with the selectors if anybody. I mean, how can a captain be subjective as to who should play or not?
