FOOTBALL Football Manager Discussion

He's not that expensive for a Premiership club, and he's awesome on FM. Like I say, he's just one of those cheat players who always does well.

Lol that's not true! I've had bad experiences with Briand before and had to force myself to sign him. I was looking at players who would be realistic signings for me and Briand was at the top. There was no way I was going to waste the opportunity lol. I made a mistake, he actually cost ?12.25mil btw.

I snaffled a legend in my Queensland Roar game. Picked up Venezuelan striker Alexander Rondon on a free transfer - as soon as I signed him, his value went to $5.7M AUD (probably about 2.5M pounds).

Only allowed 4 internationals but I was quick to ditch Reinaldo in favour of this freak. He looks to be sensational. He is already 30 years old but I'm not too fussed - with his incredible stats I can probably sell him for heaps if he starts getting too much worse.

I have made two other signings before the season officially starts. Didn't like my options in the midfield so I picked up playmaker Sasa Radulovic on a free transfer after a stint in Hungary and I also signed a very good goalkeeper from Uruguay in Diego Barcena. My coach thinks he is miles better than Liam Reddy so it looks like Reddy's gone. I never liked him anyway.

Sold Seo Hyuk So off to a Korean club where he belongs for $45K AUD. He's 34 now and I didn't want him blocking my future international players with the 4 international rule so I offered him and he was promptly taken.

Anyway, with Rondon, Radulovic and Barcena we should be a quality team this year.

Should be a strong season for the Roar. :D

I just started a save with Cook Islands, the 202nd best national team in the world. I know nothing about the players so I'll choose random players.

Ahh, nice. Sounds promosing mate. Good luck with that. I wanna hear how you go too.

I'm gonna have to borrow FM09 off my uncle now and download a database after the transfer window and some new kits.

Queensland Roar 2008/09

Past halfway through the season and we sit in second spot. It's been a tight race and the competition is really heating up. Nobody took any interest in my players so I was forced to release some big names on free transfers, costing me dearly in compensation:

Games Played: 12/21
Position: 2/8
Points: 23 (-4 off Central Coast)
Won: 7
Drawn: 2
Lost: 3
Goals Scored: 23
Goals Against: 13

Central Coast are holding me down - they have a four point lead at the top of the table and they have been unbeaten so far this year.

Meanwhile, Sydney FC dwell at the bottom with just one win from twelve matches and 6 points to their name.

A-League Leading Goalscorers: Nick Mrdja 9 (CCM), Joel Griffiths 9 (NEW), Alexander Rond?n 7 (QLD), Sergio Van Dijk 5 (QLD), John Aloisi 4 (SYD)

Rond?n also leads the assists table. He has 7 goals and 5 assists from 12 matches so far - a superb contribution alongside an average rating of 7.38.

Transfers
In (4): Sasa Radulovic (Free), Diego B?rcena (7K), Alexander Rond?n (Free) Leopoldo Jim?nez (7K)

I just signed Leopoldo Jimenez and he hasn't yet played a game. He is a Venezuelan centre defense - looks like he could be a valuable partner alongside Craig Moore.

Out (13): Seo Hyuk-Su (45K), David Dodd, William Tumusiime, Ben Griffin, Josh McCloughan, Reinaldo, Luke Muir, Michael Angus, Tyler Thurtell, Brad McDonald, Mitchell Bevan, Joshua McVey, Michael Ryan

Basically ditched half my youth squad and a few first teamers in order to save wages. They weren't going anywhere anyway, who cares?

Will keep everyone updated with progress of Jimenez. Hopefully he plays well.

Wow, you ditched a lot of players. If I did that with my sydney team I would probably only have like 10 players lol.

Great start there mate, hopefully you can catch CCM. When do you play them next?

Finished the A-League regular season.

I dominated the end, but Central Coast were way too good.

After my update, I won every single game - winning 9 in a row smashed all the club records. However, Central Coast won 8 of their games and drew 1 in that period also. We were set to play CCM at Suncorp in the last match - however, the odds were very slim for me. We needed a 4-0 win to finish first place, but we only managed to scrape in a 3-2 win, for Central's first loss of the season.

Heading into the finals now. I have a home leg first against Central Coast again - unfortunately three players will be out - Moore suspended for three matches after reaching yellow card limit, Packer for one and Murdocca picked up an injury - NOT good. :(

Hopefully I can compete strongly in the finals though.

Lost on aggregate in the finals against Central Coast 4-2 (after three of my first team defenders were suspended with yellow cards.. GAH) but beat the Victory. However, after scraping a 0-0 draw in full time and extra time we were forced to settle the grand final in penalties, which of course my tired team lost thanks to Miller and Jimenez missing shots. Will continue the A-League a bit later.

Anyway, I decided to have a crack at San Marino - ranked 207th out of 208 in the world, and the worst possible team to play with.

First match against Poland, World Cup Qualifiers? 3-1 San Marino. :D

Keep in mind Poland are ranked 26th in the world, and we are 207th. We dominated their attack with the likes of some unknown new players. (I unticked use real players).

Also, just out of interest, if anybody wanted to see what it was like without real players..

The new best team in the world is Inter Milan, with Chelsea close behind. A.C. Milan, Manchester United and Real Madrid round out the top five. Man Utd have the most room for improvement and have the best potential squad.

The best player in the world is William Mensah, a 24 year old Ghanian defensive midfielder. He is probably on par with Steven Gerrard of the real players according to stats - this round isn't as good as the real players. He is currently at Chelsea.

The worst player in the world is from San Marino (:doh). Matteo Casali is a 24 year old striker that fails at life. He has 1 corners, 1 crossing, 1 dribbling, 1 finishing (who ever heard of a striker with 1 finishing?), 1 free kicks, 1 long shots, 1 long throws, 1 marking, 1 passing, 1 penalty taking, 1 tackling and quite a few more. On the bright side he does have 4 heading - looks like a great target striker. Send them his way from the corners.

Whenever you start a new game and you un-tick 'use real players' the players are always different.

I started a Newcastle save without real players a while back but soon lost interest.

This is my new challenge:

Simulation Style Management
(an alternative to LLM)
-----------------------------------------

Simulation Style Management (SSM), or Susie Simulation Management, is an attempt to create as realistic a game of Football Manager as possible while being more inclusive than the LLM style.

LLM style management assumes the gamer is starting as a no name manager who has just gotten his badges. This is not always the case in football management, however. Sometimes a high profile player gets to start a few steps up the management ladder. Two contemporary examples of this would be Alan Shearer of Newcastle, and Josep Guardiola of FC Barcelona. Shearer didn't start with Worcester City, he started with Newcastle United.

SSM will adhere to the accepted guidelines of LLM with the exception that it will allow the FM gamer the possibility of starting with whichever club he chooses. You can be an LLM gamer and still be an SSM gamer as well, but SSM will also open it's arms to players who want to start in higher leagues with bigger clubs but still only use the tools given the manager in FM.

Guidelines

*Tick the box for Allow Player Attribute Masking
-There should be a measure of mystery about players you have not scouted, trialed, or played against.

*Untick the box for Add Key Staff
-Start with the staff that is provided by the database.

*Start with Automatic Reputation/Lowest Reputation Possible
-Automatic Reputation will cause the game to assign you a reputation based on your starting club. If you go with a lower league club, then start with the lowest reputation possible.

*Do not sign a player from the transfer list without at least scouting or trialing him first
-A real life manager is not going to look at a piece of paper with names on it and say to himself, "I must sign this player!"

*Do not use the player search button
-This would imply previous knowledge of a player(s) you would not have had.

*Do not use the internet in any capacity to find players
-This includes, but is not limited to, FM fansite forums. It would require the player search button anyway.

*Do not use tactics and/or training schedules you have downloaded
-Real managers devise their own match strategies and do not have the luxury of downloading them from the internet.

*Do not name players/staff members that you have signed when discussing your SSM game
-This is out of respect to other SSM players who might be reading. The idea is to avoid to getting tips on playing the game from other gamers.

*No tactical exploits
-This includes, but is not limited to, the well known corner exploit.
-----------------------------------------

Used this LLM team picker to get my side, which was: Krymteplitsia Molodizhne from Ukrainian Persha Liha (First League) :p

Going to be tough, especially as in my first friendly I lost to some semi-professional side from Ukraine, but I have some talented young strikers who will hopefully give us a chance at promotion.
