The Race for Victory!
The Formula One 2006 season is upon us. Some exciting new faces and what could be a momentous season, which is likely to be Michael Schumacher's last. With Fernando Alonso winning his 1st drivers championship at Renault, it looks to be another fine season of motor racing. Some drastic changes have been made in ruling, as well as in the teams this season. It will be the last year in which two tyres will be used, Michelin to drop out from next season on wards. Minardi, Sauber and Jordan have all been bought out, replaced by Red Bull, Toro Rosso and BMW, with a new team named Super Aguri F1.
Qualifying has been changed, three sessions of 15, 15 and 20 minutes. In the first 15 minutes teams will have time to run as many flying laps as they please before the allotted time. After the 1st session is over drivers below 16th will drop out, leaving 16 drivers to continue in session 2. After another 15 minutes the top 10 drivers will go on to the final session to set the final grid positions for the race. There will be practises held on Friday and Saturday before qualifying.
All rule changes can be found here
The Belgian Grand Prix held at Spa-Francorchamps has been removed from the racing calendar due to lack of time to complete improvements in the track. The first race of the 2006 season will be held at Bahrain.
