The Race for Victory!

The Formula One 2006 season is upon us. Some exciting new faces and what could be a momentous season, which is likely to be Michael Schumacher's last. With Fernando Alonso winning his 1st drivers championship at Renault, it looks to be another fine season of motor racing. Some drastic changes have been made in ruling, as well as in the teams this season. It will be the last year in which two tyres will be used, Michelin to drop out from next season on wards. Minardi, Sauber and Jordan have all been bought out, replaced by Red Bull, Toro Rosso and BMW, with a new team named Super Aguri F1.

Qualifying has been changed, three sessions of 15, 15 and 20 minutes. In the first 15 minutes teams will have time to run as many flying laps as they please before the allotted time. After the 1st session is over drivers below 16th will drop out, leaving 16 drivers to continue in session 2. After another 15 minutes the top 10 drivers will go on to the final session to set the final grid positions for the race. There will be practises held on Friday and Saturday before qualifying.

All rule changes can be found here

The Belgian Grand Prix held at Spa-Francorchamps has been removed from the racing calendar due to lack of time to complete improvements in the track. The first race of the 2006 season will be held at Bahrain.

Good luck treva I hope all goes well as there has been a rise in story closures in the past few months

I dunno how you get so many hi-quality stories going at once!
This one, the England one, our one, etc.

How you gonna do this?

Cheers guys.

I will do it where each race weekend I will control one driver. That will be the driver who comes 8th from the race before. With no race before this one I will control the driver who came 8th in the championship last year, Rubens Barrichello. I will drive in the two practice sessions and qualifying, but will not race due to the likelyhood of me crashing out :p. Will autoplay the race to get the race standings.

Been bored of late and F1 CE really passes time away and is enjoyable, so should be a breeze getting updates done. Seeing as I've got it on PS3 here will not be any pictures I doubt, unless I can find some way to see replays or stuff. Will start the 1st session today before I leave for Stoke - Bristol City game :)

Bahrain International Circuit
Number of Laps: 57
Circuit Length: 5.412 km
Race Distance: 308.238 km
Lap Record: 1:30.252 - M Schumacher (2004)

The 2004 Grand Prix of Bahrain marked the first ever round of the FIA Formula One World Championship to be held in the Middle East and the official culmination of a multi-million dollar project started back in September 2002 when the Kingdom of Bahrain signed a long-term deal to host the event.

Located at Sakhir, 30 km south-west of the island's capital, Manama, the Herman Tilke designed circuit contains no less than five track layouts within one complex. Construction began in November 2002 and in the months prior to its March 2004 completion, work was going on around the clock. Over 12,000 tonnes of stone were used in the build, a third of it Welsh granite, chosen for the track surface due to its excellent adhesive qualities.

The 5.411 km Grand Prix circuit was designed with the spectator in mind, with 50,000 grandstand seats, all providing excellent views. Those spectators (a total of 100,000 over a race weekend) get to see the cars heading into the external desert area, before coming back into the oasis-styled infield. Up to 500 journalists can also witness the action from the venue's purpose-built media centre.

The track offers the driver a unique experience in the way the circuit's width varies at the end of the different straights. This allows for diverse racing lines, and the 12-corner design provides at least three genuine overtaking opportunities.

Damn, hoped people would dismiss the fact that there was me talking on that video :spy

I will auto play the race as everytime I race I end up retired. Will be much better to just do all but the race and then get good results :)

Friday Practice Session
Reigning champ Fernando Alonso topped Friday practice with a time of 1:34.352, only .040 seconds faster than Michael Schumacher in the Ferrari. Sector 2 was where the no 1. car of Alonso excelled, a sector time only bettered by Felipe Massa who ended up 3rd. Jarno Trulli's time of 1:34.412 was equal to that of Massa's, the only non Ferrari or Renault in the top 5. Giancarlo Fisichella, Juan Pablo Montoya, Nick Heidfield and Kimi Räikkönen all posted 1:34's as well. Jenson Button posted a good time of 1:35.312 to beat his fellow team mate Rubens Barichello by .460 seconds.

A poor quality video, but here's a short extract from one of Rubens Barichello's laps:

Note: Will take a while to load

Will try and get a whole lap from qualifying...

Saturday Practice Session
It was the turn of Juan Pablo Montoya to lead Saturday's practice session, recording the fastest time of the weekend with 1:34.212. Fernando Alonso wasn't far behind, 0.100 second off the pace, level with his team mate Giancarlo Fisichella. Michael Schumacher matched his Friday time and Felipe Massa went a fraction quicker, but ending up at 5th and 6th thanks to a quick time from Jarno Trulli. Rubens Barrichello really stepped on the gas and improved his time by 1.280 seconds, moving into 7th spot, just ahead of his team mate Jenson Button. The other big climber from Friday practice was Christian Klien, who gained 3 places.
