TENNIS Full Ace Tennis

I put together a little compilation of a few mods I'm using at the moment, created by myself, Jay and Philippe (Shared on ITST/Discord);

http://www.mediafire.com/file/cdwty9y54808o18/FA_Mod_0.1.zip

Just extract to the installation folder.

Contents;

Over 2000 real player names, with correct nationalities and DOBs.
Most top 100 players assigned the correct height, handedness/backhand type etc.
Racquet logos (assignable in the editor)
Racquets assigned accurately for the top ~30 according to what they used in AO 2018
Player thumbnail pics (240 pics)
Outfits for 11 players.
Australian Open court texture.
AO/Roland Garros adboard/stadium textures.
Hawkeye challenge in/out graphic
Tournament logos for career mode

There is potential for much, much more to be done which will likely happen in the next few months - sound effects, grunts, umpire sounds, court/adboard textures for all tournaments, outfits for many more players etc.
Fantastic work mate![DOUBLEPOST=1519844797][/DOUBLEPOST]To be fair this is my first ever tennis game!

Ha ha just lost my first qualifying match as a career player 6-0, 6-0.......failed to score a single point! :p Love it!
There is certainly a learning curve :p I recommend any newcomer plays through the tutorials, even if just the once, they do a good job of explaining the mechanics and controls and how they are intended to be used.

The "challenge" mode is fun if you haven't looked at it already - it's a scenario mode which recreates some iconic moments in (recent) tennis history. The mod I posted corrects the names for these players too.

yeah just went some of the tutorials...what i like about the controls is that you can sense that you will have a certain preference for certain shots like in real life: I am a very strongly inclined forehand player in real life and find myself wanting to do that in the game...and succeeding![DOUBLEPOST=1519846715][/DOUBLEPOST]
I cannot find it in our rules, but this must be perma ban worthy. Not a single point? :p
Nope! Zilch! But i didn't know what button did what! It just proves how pointless I really am!!! :p

So i have gone off and done some of the tutorials!

remember we are talking tennis here and not beer: where you come from pointless means: without a drink at the bar!

Very difficult game.Have managed to win the odd point but not come close to winning a game and that is on the lowest level.Possibly over complicated to produce a decent shot. Can't complain for 17.84 though.
Good idea to have a sale on when released gets people to buy.

You’ll soon get used to it and appreciate the difficulty.
I’m now playing on “real life” difficulty for all parameters, which gives me really competitive ( sometimes epic 5 set matches ) against highly rated AI.[DOUBLEPOST=1519862254][/DOUBLEPOST]

Although, I do use “auto prepare” and only use the manual prepare left/right buttons when I wish to hit an inside out shot. I think this will help with the difficulty.

Thanks for the tip .Gone to slow speed as well and have managed to take a game to deuce. This is good imo it means there is a decent learning curve .Now if only we could get the announcer to say the players name rather than player 1 and player 2 !!!.

Wow this game is tough :( Still to win a single point :p

This is technically moddable. Although would take time to implement. @Madman has mentioned that it may be possible to extract ao tennis blob set items (including announcer sounds)

So I think with a lot of time, this could be implemented for some players .

I’m not 100%sure however, I’m still only new to the modding scene.

A good AI vs AI Nadal vs Djokovic match.

Impression After Playing For 90 Minutes

Last tennis game I played was Virtua Tennis 4. The game released in 2011 so I can safely say I played a Tennis game after 6 good years. First of all for the price range this game has not yet disappointed me. After installing and starting the game I initially felt that the game was slow in moving around its menu. I have a good Windows Laptop with Nvidia 940M which runs DBC 17 smoothly so this game should not have problem. It seems that it was only while opening the menu or navigating through menu once. So for example clicking on Exhibition my game froze for a minute, same happened for tournament, practice etc. Once you have navigated the game becomes fast.

I straight away downloaded @Madman's files that he shared and I was surprised to see so many players in a game. Felt good. I start an exhibition match straight up thinking it will be easy to get controls like Virtua Tennis but boy was I wrong. I was not able to move or connect at all. I quit and went back to tutorials. I started a tutorial with text on top with no info on what to click to continue. This is a bad part of this game where the navigation is not mentioned on each and every aspect. I finally understood pressing B button on X1 controller actually takes game forward. I think I did pretty well in tutorial and thought to give it a try again in exhibition match.

Boy oh boy! I was still pretty bad with getting confused what to hit as button on what shot. I think they should have a casual mode for casual fans like me who want to play Virtua Tennis 4 kind of tennis of moving with analog stick and hitting with any button. The moving with analog button and pressing RB/LB with B along with focusing on where you want to pitch is a little over for me which will take a lot of time to get used too.

Graphics for a $20 game running on DirectX is fantastic. The game looks and feels good although player models are a little bit past generation or PS2 kind off but I am fine with it. The game has so many stadiums and players that with career and tournament. This is fun and if I get hang of playing this game it will actually last longer.

So finally I would say its a $20 worth game with a lot of depth and is amazing in terms of difficult which means you have to keep learning.

Pros

1. Price
2. Depth
3. Difficulty level to not make it boring
4. Ability to mod so much

Cons

1. Player models
2. Difficulty level(yes its a con too).

I would give this game a good 3.75/5

This is technically possible, but could be difficult to do well.

You'd need to replace every single umpire sound with ones from the same person you'd have saying the player names.

That could either be done by somebody recording new sounds into a microphone, or by finding enough footage from real matches to get good samples from a real umpire.

@passarapin - Umpire sounds are one of the only things I didn't find in the AO Blobset - either they are hidden inside another archive I don't know how to get into, or they just weren't included in the demo. I'll look again when the full version comes to Steam.
