Futurama's back!

I watched a bit when it came out and hated it. I want more of the old Futurama back. Seems to be taking the same downhill turn that The Simpsons has been. Family Guy is still the king.

Sure it isn't the movies? I've seen the first 2. The first 1 is brilliant, maybe even better than the Simpsons Movie, but the 2nd Movie in cringeworthy. The 3rd one looks like it'll be crap as well.

Not really, and even if it is its miles better then the simpsons. They have about 1 funny joke every second episode usually.

The first few series of the simpsons are absolute awful, I haven't seen much of the recent ones so won't comment on them. But the middle few series are amongst the greatest things ever devised by man.

That's not the problem. The problem is the gags have nothing to do with the storyline. As I've said before, most of the time Peter or someone will say, This is crazier than the time when...) and then a gag which is why I';ll always prefer SP. FG is still very funny.

Couldn't agree more.

Definitely. The latest series have been very disappointing, lots of pop culture references and none of the hilarity that used to be in the old ones.

aus5892 added 1 Minutes and 4 Seconds later...

Those are often the funniest parts. I love the Anne Frank basement scene.

The Simpsons wasn't really a comedy for the first few series. I agree though, the middle ones are the best.

The line "Super Nintendo Chalmers" makes me laugh every single time. Not just a giggle either a full on roar, that era was immense.

Besides animation the greatest comedy series ever is Curb Your Enthusiasm, Larry's antics include picking up a prostitue so he can use the car pool lane, getting into a fight with the Joseph he hired to do a nativity scene, scratching Ben Stiller's eye with a kebab skewer and complimenting a man on how big his (8 year old) son's penis is.

I still watch Family Guy on the chance that the one good joke they give has me in hysterics. Generally, I like American Dad more so. The Simpsons were at their best between S4 and S10.

I think what sticks most about Futurama is the depth of the main characters. Fry is an ordinary man pulled from his time. Bender is contemplating suicide in his first appearance. Leela is the only person of her kind and determined not to be the last. But that's not all, the writing is so compelling. What human being doesn't feel the slightest tear after Luck of the Fryrish, or Jurassic Bark, or Time Keeps on Slipping, The Sting or Godfellas? Even if it is a happy end, it's often one that makes you think and wonder. That's what a lot of shows don't have and never ever have.

Could not agree much more. My friends consider me to have three emotional states: laughing, angry and neutral. Yet the episode (the name escapes me at the moment) where Fry gets worms which make him intelligent enough to get with Leila, then decides to destroy the worms to see if he and Leila are actually in love is quite touching.

As for family guy what's that? Peter is acting childish again? It has as much emotional depth as the flakes of skin that sometimes collect in my ear.

Very true, not only was it funny but I really felt sad at the end of the episode where you find out his brother named his son after Fry, and that Fry was remembered for years to come by his family and even his brother who had supposedly hated. The dog episode the same.

However, Family Guy takes all the aspects of modern day sitcoms and exaggerates them to the maximum. Adding in ridiculous flashbacks, TV and sex, and downright stupidity. The thing that makes it good is how funny those jokes are, if you miss trying to do all that you'll be a crap show.

American Dad, which is apparently exactly the same but isn't, is funny because it's a lot more political.

Haha yeah. "Hi Lisa, hi Principal Skinner, hi Super Nintendo Chalmers."

"I bent my wookie!"

I agree, Futurama has so much more depth than the others.
