Its a real shame that this thread is still OPEN while Binnu's thread comparing Shane Watson & Murali Vijay was CLOSED.

If that was a ridiculous comparison, so is this. But it is surprising that this thread is still open.

Downright Ridiculous ! :facepalm

No, seriously this is a pretty decent comparrison. Both are openers and are relatively young. A minor 8 year age diffierence, but they are still in their 20s.

I dont understand why you need to rant about how "horrible" and "ridiculous" this thread is.

One averages 56 after 27 matches, and the other 52 after 5 matches. I think it is a ridiculous comparison, Hughes would have to bat out of his skin to be where Gambhir is after 27 matches

Gambhir had a slow start to his career, why does Hughes need to bat out of his skin?

A couple of centuries every 5 matches is no biggy for Hughes :D

Gotta say I agree with RDF. They need consistency between all these comparison threads. Perhaps they should have just one common one?

Although this is a lot more sensible. However, as far as I would take it is Gambhir has been better thus far, but Hughes definitely has the potential to be greater...

As of now..It has to be Gambhir

4 consecutive test centuries is obviously no joke !

Haven't seen Huges play in one day & T-20.So no comparisons there.

A joke right? Phil Hughes is nothing compared to Gambhir. Gambhir becoming no.1 test player in just 27 matches. Although Phil Huges has not played as many matches as Gambhir, he still cannot compete with Gambhir. He has talent but he is nothing like Gambhir. Gambhir has the ability to stay at the crease for as long as he wants. He can also be agressive. With him being in the Indian test side, there is a very low chance that India can lose a test match because Gambhir is the savior and he was proven this Twice already. Hughes might be good but he is not the best like Gambhir.

Not much of a comparison between the two, I'd pick Gambhir over Hughes easliy. His form has been exceptional over the past 12 months and he is hands down the best test opener in the world at the moment and he is in the form of his life at the moment. Hughes does have potential to become a good batsman and he is still very young, but right now there is no way you can compare a batsman who has been in the form of his life over the last few months to a player who hasn't been given much of an opportunity in international cricket.

The way Gautam Gambhir is playing right now, Philip Hughes can go fly a kite. :clap

Talk to me when Phil Hughes plays half as good as Gambhir does :sarcasm

I can't believe people are picking Hughes over Gambhir. Gambhir is the best of the two, there is no contest. The thread should be renamed 'Gautam Gambhir is better than Phil Hughes'. That's just the way it is.

I can't believe this thread is still open while Binnu's thread was closed. This is shameful :facepalm
