General Cricket Discussion

The Champions Trophy makes sense... if it wasn't for the fact that they are reducing the World Cup to 10 teams which practically makes them both the same. If you had a 16 team World Cup and a 16, 24 or 32 team World T20 (the latter is a little extreme) then an eight team competition makes sense - although I'd have a qualifying tournament with teams ranked 6-10 or something just before the thing just to make things a little fairer

The CT had to be 8 teams (would acutally have preferred it to be just 6 teams, definitely not 10, as that would make it the same as the WC), so one of Pak and WI has to lose out.

Actually going forward, there could be a Test Championship with 6 teams. This could be 3 teams in two groups each. Then a final between the top two teams. Or Playoff 1 with #3 vs #6 (winner facing #1 in the SF) and Playoff #4 vs #5 (with winner facing #2 in SF). Then the final.

CT could be 8 teams, WC should be 16 teams, just don't understand why its down to 10 to be honest. Probably may have something do to with the English summer, between the football break, not being long enough to hold a 16 team tournament. ICC really does need to settle to a fixed format though.

I really like the idea of an even bigger WT20. 24 teams atleast should be looked at as an option. That would be a really great tournament.

No discussions on the change in ODI rules yet ?

Bowlers benefit from ODI rule changes | Cricket | ESPN Cricinfo

Lots of welcome changes with field restrictions and PP. Also:

ICC to 'tamper' with seam
The ICC chief executive Dave Richardson has revealed that the ICC along with the MCC will commission research into changes to the cricket ball. "With MCC we will be looking at not only bats, but also the cricket ball," he said. "There is a view if we sanction or look at some change to the thickness or the depth of seam it might actually be what we are looking forward to give the seam bowlers a little bit more help, also aid swing and to enable the spinners to get more grip and to spin the ball more if we tamper with the seam."

You know I don't know how feasible this idea is, but I have always thought that there should be a 'Bowling Powerplay' in ODIs. Not the kind where the bowling side decides what 5 overs should have the fielding restrictions.

The Bowling Powerplay I am talking about should have no restrictions at all. If the bowler wants he can bowls as many short pitch deliveries as he wants. There will be no field restrictions, if the fielding side wants they can put all fielders outside the 30 yard circle.

In other words for those 5 overs the fielding side is the boss. I think that would help the bowlers a little bit.

^^Sorry, but that's the Worst idea i ever heard.

And why is this so? I think that the limit of bouncers should be removed. The one ball that can trouble batsmen is the short ball but we have basically taken it out of existence. Maybe instead of being a condescending prick you can tell people whats wrong with their opinion...

I should have been more specific.

I agree on short deliveries should not have restrictions though.

hi everyone

I'm not really a big cricket fan but have decided to buy tickets for my dad's birthday for day 5 of the 3rd test at edgbaston. I have recently been told by a friend that tests rarely last the full 5 days so I'm just wondering whether I've made a huge mistake?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

BCCI instructed to pay INR 550 crores to Kochi Tuskers Kerala - Cricbuzz

RC Lahoti-led justice panel has asked India's cricket board to shell out INR 550 crore to erstwhile Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, Kochi Tuskers Kerala.

The franchise owners then took up legal action against BCCI and have now received a favourable decision. However, it is understood that they'd rather have the team reinstated for the next season of IPL rather than receive the money

Warne confirms booking baseball venues for all-star T20s | Cricket | ESPN Cricinfo

According to Warne, 28 players, including Glenn McGrath, Rahul Dravid, Jacques Kallis, Adam Gilchrist, Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman, Brian Lara and Wasim Akram, have signed on for the series. He also said the organisers were in talks with the ICC and the USA Cricket Association for their involvement and support.

"We've signed around 28 players who have all said, 'If you and Sachin are doing it, we'd like to do it as well'," Warne said. "We've got all the players you'd want to see from the past 20 years. Part of the all-stars idea is we go around and the people who haven't had the opportunity to see these guys play over the years because they're based in the States can come.

Ian Bell isn't included because he must dye his hair or something. I feel like I'm missing some players, though, so feel free to help out if you have a spare moment.

to be serious its nice that the most famous cricket player still does normal person things like go to stately homes and miss buses and asking for help on twitter, I can't imagine many other sports people doing that
