General Cricket Discussion

Cannot believe there is no Bangladesh West Indies tour thread. What an innings from Shai Hope, he is the only Hope in current Windies setup. Need more players like him. Absolutely fantastic.

Shai Hope is an excellent player now. He was lacking form and aggression in the start of his career. But now he is one of the best players in the windies lineup.

So how many teams are going to participate in T20 World Cup next year?

Are you sure? Any sources? So just learnt that top 8 qualified for the T20 WC. Teams like Ireland, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe will be part of qualifiers. Most likely those 4 will make it, will be interesting to see which are the remaining 4 teams.

ICC has granted T20 status to all 100 + teams if I am not wrong. We should have had more teams in T20 WC. Atleast 24 teams.

A question to Asian fans

Why has the Cricket standards in Sri Lanka and Pakistan are going down and also Bangladesh is not able to put those strong performances which can help them to be in reckoning among the best sides among the world and on the other hand the Indian Cricket Team is constantly on a rise in terms of performing when we look into a long term context ?

If Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh are struggling then why not India ? What makes them different from the rest of the mentioned teams ?

I am asking this because I don't have much knowledge about the Cricket played in the 90's, when I look back at those past records I see India being always a bit par with Sri Lanka (though at major events Sri Lanka dominated them) while Pakistan always being a bit above them and now when I look at it these teams have struggled to win matches while India still somehow being consistent and being much better than Sri Lanka and slightly ahead of Pakistan. What has brought about these drastic changes ?

Population and money.

This might be part of the corruption point but the nepotism and bureaucracy is a big part of it. I can't speak of SL or Bangladesh, but Pakistan keep persisting with the same people who've done nothing over the years. The best thing, I think, the BCCI did was to appoint Rahul Dravid the U19 coach. That makes a huge difference. Players would have grownup watching him and be influenced by him. Not to mention, his demeanor and character would spill over to the youngsters, which is a great thing. No offense to Masoor Rana but he's no Rahul Dravid. Put in someone like Younis or Misbah. Disciplined players with a track record. But then again, the whole damn system seems broken.

PS: Don't mean to pick on Rana. He might be a good coach after all. I just think you need a recognizable face in there, especially for younger players.

Sorry to say but BCCI is no good by appointing coaches like Ravi Shastri. They have disrespected one of our best spinners of all time who was a prospect to become one of the best coach in the Cricket history of India atleast by throwing him out of the team due to the differences in opinion between him and our skipper. Ravi Shastri maybe a very good player but doesn't even know about the ethics of coaching :noway:facepalm
