General Discussion

how hard would adding in a rankings sort of thing into the sim like every player in the database is ranked in Batting Bowling, sort of lie the ICC rankings?

It shouldn't be hard but it's not one of my primary goals. Stats tracking and the like won't be there until I begin tweaking the engine properly... at least not in a mature state.

scorecards look amazing, does this mean we are getting closer to a release

Sohum,

Would your sim be able to incorparate some sort of 'live' commentary system? This would mean we could stream the commentary 'live' allowing members to post on proceedings whilst match develops rather than seeing the day's play all at once.

Here's an example of what I mean: Cyclones 271/10

Cricsim.com use ITC which allows streaming and I think it would be a great addition to the PCCL if your sim could also have a similar element.

Funny you should ask, because that is exactly the reason I went through the trouble of putting the simulation engine in a separate thread.

Much like real cricket, the simulation is not related to the presentation mechanism. For example, in real cricket the players out there don't play their game thinking about how the scorecard looks or what the commentary team is saying.

So as the simulation is running and generating updates, I have plans for several different "listener" listening to the events and processing them as necessary. A scorecard listener updates the scorecard, a ball-by-ball update updates what happened that ball and I will be writing a commentary listener that produces commentary based on the event.

Similarly, it would be possible to write either a listener that output commentary to a webserver (would be nifty to make it bounce through the different connection methods and protocol) or write a listener that communicated to a client over a webservice (would require an IIS webserver for easiest implementation).

Despite all the technical jargon that I don't understand one bit, it sounds great! Would change the cricsim competition massively and create more discussion and ultimately more activity. Can't wait.

Much like others have said, the scorecards look brilliant. Looking foward to hearing further updates.

I didn't think of that Treva. Good point you raise there and I hope it comes true!

This project sounds interesting. As the programmer behind the Cricket Coach series of games I'd like to offer my help wherever it might be needed. Developing Cricket Coach certainly was a rough ride with many obstacles, if you guys have any technical issues that you think I might be able to assist with then feel free to get in touch.

I can supply a text version of the Cricket Coach 2009 player database if that would be of any use. I know when I was first writing Cricket Coach getting a variety of teams/players to test with was very time consuming.

Cheers for the offer, Oli.

The player/teams sounds interesting but I'm not sure our databases would merge that well. Also, the goal of this project is to make simulation values as simple as possible. Hence, there are just three numbers (batting, bowling, fielding) in the 0-100 range as well as a combination of special skills. If you think that would translate over easily into this project, then we can talk. I'm using a SQLite db currently so most SQL syntax should work in the event we have to automate anything.

how long is it going to be until we get a release, i have been waiting for ages for this now.

Well, I'm sorry. I have other things to do apart from this, which is simply a side project. If you want to bankroll me I'll be happy to work more on it!

Be fair, there is a ████ load of work being put into this, and the fact that Sohum needs to work in order to make a living means he can't be working on this project 24/7.. Just be patient and show support.

i'll show support,

GO SOHUM,

just can't wait for this. that's all, and i respect that there is a ████ load of work to be done
