General Discussion

I prefer option 2 so that people who wish to play the game for fun can do it with their own database. Maybe option 1 for the PC tournament, and a local database also available for download who wish to play it for fun?

That's exactly what option 1 is. :p

I would like to see a bit more depth in the pitch choice. Instead of excellent, normal and poor I think a 1-10 rating system for different properties. So for example the properties could be bounce, turn, pace and wear. A bit like what they have on ICC, but obviously a bit more in-depth than that.

Then we could have set pitch type's for the cricsim teams that could be edited by the teams as the season goes on to suit who they play and the side they put out.

To expand on Trev's idea. Maybe make pitches harder to be slower. For example, the WACA should have a quick and bouncy pitch most of the time. The SCG should favour spinners. This idea doesn't have to be concrete, eg: the WACA was slow last season.

Just putting it foward.

I think we could really do something with that too, teams could have to define their pitches early and it would take time to change them as well. Good idea.

Could I ask if you feel you have any chance of getting the new simulator done by the start of next season. With the PCPL still to be completed, then the Origin series and offseason trading/drafting/organising business, I'd estimate that the new season will begin in late September or October.

Could be possible depending on how well we collaborate. Keep in mind that I'm currently working full-time so it's just evenings and weekends that I have to work on this. It may be ready for testing by then, I'm not sure about production use.

On another note, I have installed Subversion on my server for version control of the source files. Would everyone listed on the feature team please email me a choice of username and password (don't choose your PC password, at the very least, cause it's not encrypted!) and I'll set up their SVN accounts and get you further details. I'll also post the component breakdown this weekend since I'm too lazy to do it now and besides that it's Friday night here. :happy

Well as long as you're this hard working every Friday night!

I just ask because it would be best not to be changing sims during a season.

Don't have your email ID, so PMing you my username and pw..

I'll help testing if you need another member to help out. I know a little C+ but not enough to help out unfortunately.

Anyways, good luck. :)

I haven't worked too much with the databases yet, but then the things that I have actually learned are when I didn't know them but tried to do them! So would love to contribute. :)

I think I do know about the version control you're talking about, but would like to clarify anyways. :)

Yes, but in vb.net what happens is that if I don't capitalise a property it does it on its own, and most times when I'm writing something, possible things come in a dropbox, so it becomes a hell lot easier. :) But I guess every language has its pro's and con's. I've heard C# is faster.

Are we looking into a GUI based program or a console one?

VB.NET and C# are both translated into the same intermediate language, and so give the same performance.
