The thing about the computer driving for you, it only speeds up tp 30km/h and does minor steering to try and make the car drive smoother.

But it also takes you onto the racing line,which makes driving a piece of cake

Yeah, I know but only if you are going slow enough but most physics file updates make it less exaggerated. But you wouldn't take long to get onto the racing line in any case. A must to download is GPxPatch.

Do you play using keyboard or joystick?

I personally either use a keyboard or my Logitech Formula Force wheel, but Microprose and Logitech don't always mix well so its a bugger to calibrate it at times.

Have you turned off the steering help completely in the control set?

Yep,all driving aids(except The Shifting Gears one) are disabled.

What brand wheel do you use?

It doesn't have a brand lol!

It just has something like "Indianapolis 500" written on it.

I got it on sale

Yep it sets up fine...works perfectly on all racing games.

Got it for PS2, played it for a couple of weeks

Gold if you want to totally remove steering help you must download a program called GP4 Tweaker, you can change that and increase the damage coefficient...etc
NOTE: GP4 has steering help on all the time, and once removed never try to play the game with a keyboard. http://gp4tweaker.vadertrophy.com/cms/downloads.html should be around there.
