Give us the logic behind Chawla and Rohit Sharma's selection, Sir

We're talking about the T20s, right? If a guy can consistently thrash out 30 runs he's a very good one to have. India have a lot of players, so I can understand the dispute, but Rohit has a good future.

Personally, I'd rather a batsman who gets himself out than a batsman who isn't good enough.

Sharma is still more talented than those names, but yea, they don't throw their wickets away.

If it was all about talent, then Ambati Rayudu would've made the Indian team ages back. He was the cream of the crop from that U-19 squad (think they won that year, plus he was the captain) and if I'm right, Yuvraj, Kaif and Sodhi were in that side too. Yet, the latter 3 have represented India and done well in domestic cricket, but Rayudu despite showing flashes of brilliance, hasn't done that well. So yeah.

Rohit Sharma might well be the most talented of the lot, but he really has to start showing some sort of consistency. I'd rather they give him 2 seasons in domestic, like they did with Raina, to sort himself out.

I'd just give somebody more deserving a shot at this stage. These guys are young and hungry. Rohit Sharma doesn't seem that hungry. Doesn't seem like he wants to be there. The way he throws his wicket away time and time again seems to tell me that.

Manish Pandey and Virat Kohli (who both were in the probables) are more deserving than Rohit Sharma. Kohli scored a 79* on a tough pitch at the Wanderers in the last T20 World Cup against West Indies (although India were out of the competition by the time Kohli came in). And Kohli has been in great touch in ODI's for India and can do the big hits well. Manish Pandey had a brilliant IPL-II, had a super domestic season, and so far is doing good enough in IPL-3 too. He is a brilliant fielder too (all three are great fielders but Manish has a knack of coming up with more blinders).

Rohit Sharma plays on a very batsman-friendly home ground. He's also played very few crucial knocks in knockout games on the domestic scene.

On the other hand, Manish Pandey played quite a few matches at the Gangothri Glades, Mysore, where the ball was swinging like crazy. Including the Ranji Final, where he nearly miraculously won it for Karnataka. I don't think Pandey should be rushed into the Test or ODI team at this instant, he's still got a lot to prove and there's really no room for him. But, after what he's done this season, there's very little to deny him an opportunity in at least the Twenty20 squad. He's also a better fielder than Rohit or Kohli to some extent - cleanly fields a lot of stuff that comes to him. Kohli, Rohit, Jadeja etc. tend to be brilliant at some points but look horrid at others.

Virat Kohli can be quite a handful too, and has played some brilliant knocks under pressure in domestic cricket. I posted the one that stands out to me somewhere on these forums. He's also taken most his chances in ODIs unlike Rohit. Kohli averages twice what Rohit averages, and he's only played around half the number of games Rohit has. Pretty sure he has more runs overall than Rohit too.

The fact remains that there are players that have been more crucial to their teams' successes in domestic cricket itself. He still needs a season or two to really show us if he's worth it. Yes, he's talented. Does he deserve to represent India at this particular moment? I don't believe so.

Kohli looks more in the test mould. Hasn't really taken the IPL world by storm either.

Rohit Sharma is worthless. He's had waaay too many chances for team India. There are 100 other guys knocking on the door and I feel they should be given chances. Come on selectors!

What did Manish Pandey do wrong? One of the most successful batsman in indian domestic cricket. Uthappa is in good form.

And Ashish Nehra wow :rtfl:rtfl. Can't bowl, can't bat and can't field. And he is playing in T20 world cup. And he is not fit either.

Nehra is lucky because Ishant has fallen off, and Sreesanth doesnt pick things up when given the chance (I thought he would have turned a new leaf after that 5-wkt haul against SL, but NO!). We dont want to go back to Munaf and RP, and so Nehra is being persisted with.

As for Rohit Sharma, the only reason why he got in was because of the obvious regional bias and pressure from the West Zone selectors. If not Pandey, they could've atleast picked up Robin Uthappa.

For chrissake, Robin atleast has the fire in his belly. Why are the selectors so biased to the North Zone? Why can't they bloody pick a consistent T20 specialist from the South Zone?

Meh, Nehra makes the team these days due to everyone else falling off the radar. Would like to see Vinay given a chance though. Don't think he'll do a lot of damage, but you never know.
