I am ecstatic to have been appointed new coach of the Glamorgan Cricket Club. It is my belief that this group is going places and I would love to have a major role in their development.

In the short term I am aiming to get us promoted back to division 1 for the County Championship, and in the long term if I am successful I would love to take the reigns of Australia.

Due to a lack of funds we did not introduce any new players to the squad over the off season, however we did increase our Youth team budget in order to better develop our younger players.

I will be back here before the first match of the season to give a detailed preview and analysis of the match

I decided to go with a fairly experienced side for the first match, going with 4 quicks and Dalrymple as our main spinner. The conditions are good for seam bowling and even though the pitch will suit the batsmen we believe our bowling is good enough to create a result. Jones will debut and will bowl either first or second change and hopefully he will make the most of his opportunity.

We won the toss and elected to bat, hopefully we will also get to bat on day 3 giving us the best 2 days possible for batting. We will look to get a solid start here and give us something to build on and defend.

Lunch Day 1: 3/136 off 37
We managed to fight our way to 3/136 at lunch off 37 overs thanks to some brilliant batting by Dalrymple (81*). Powell was removed on the second ball of the day edging a drive off Murtagh, and he was joined shortly by Watkins with the score on 31. This brought Kemp to the crease, and he made 29 to combine for an 80 run stand between himself and Dalrymple to take the score to 3/111. Grant survived the remaining overs to see us to a decent score of 3/136 at the first break.

Tea Day 1: 4/278 off 74
Some terrific batting in the second session has seen us to 4/278 off 74 overs at Tea on the first day. Dalrymple has continued his fine knock and is sitting on 167 off just 186 balls. Grant was dismissed for a solid 28 with the score on 197, bringing the experienced Wood to the crease. He has done a job and hung around, currently on 30 and looking solid. From here we will look to keep up the run rate and hopefully set them a big first innings target.

Stumps Day 1: 4/385 off 104
We have cruised to 4/385 off just 104 overs at the end of the first day's play. Dalrymple is unbeaten on a fine 214, while Wood also survived that session and is sitting on 86. A score of 500-600 is in reach within the next session with wickets in hand and that's what we will be aiming for, in order to keep the game alive. I couldn't be any happier with our performance in the first game of the season, sensational stuff
