Mumbai FC- Pride of Mumbai

I know of quite a few of the Indian teams there, so kind of know what results to expect. Hopefully Mumbai can keep hold on their players.

Good work here, Shan.

Union Bank of India 0-3 Mumbai FC
7th August, 2008

Mumbai Football Club enjoyed near total domination over a distinctly average Union Bank Side at The Cooperage this afternoon. The match was certainly not one for the purist with neither side able to keep the errors out of their game.

The first noteworthy incident of the match proved controversial, with Union Bank of India seeing a goal disallowed. Amit D'Costa showed a sign of things to come though as he nearly gifted Mumbai FC a goal on 49 minutes.

Mumbai FC finally took the lead when enthusiastic midfielder Sampath Kumar Kuttymani scored a powerful close ranger effort on 57 minutes. Mumbai FC captain Abhishek Yadav then double Mumba FC's lead with a real poacher's effort on 59 minutes. An error from Ryan Singh then allowed centre-back James Dissiramah to score a penalty.

Looks like an easy game but if their disallowed goal stood, it could of ended ver differently. Great win though, away from home.

Great presentation, Shan

VLM 0-6 Mumbai FC
11th August, 2008

Fans sang praises of their heroes at VLM Stadium as Mumbai Football Club ran out 6-0 winners over VLM Sports Club in their latest friendly fixture. Some particularly poor defending and a number of mistakes contributed to a high scoring game.

Striker Felix Aboagye gave Mumbai FC the lead with a curling shot from the edge of the area in the 18th minute. And error from Joseph Singh allowed young midfielder Keegan Pereira to score a close range header. Rodrigues scored with a well executed finish in the 43nd minute to extend the lead further.

Striker Alex Ambrose then added to the lead with a real poacher's effort on 68 minutes. Elangbam then increased Mumbai FC's advantage further with an effort which was deflected on it way in on 73 minutes. An error from Narender Kapoor then allowed striker Aseem Kutty to score a powerful penalty.

Another easy away victory; good start to the season although no challenges yet. Hopefully you can churn these sort of performances out against East Bengal etc.

Great presentation, Shan.

Convincing, but then expected against that opposition. You really should avoid mentioning the attendance when its that low. 49:(

Dempo have been made favourites to win their third ONGC I-League title in a row this season and the bookies fill they will win it on the last day. Dempo are priced at 1/1 to win the league.

While Churcil Bros and Mohun Bagan are priced at 7/3 followed by JCT and Mahindra United priced at 3/1. Mohun Bagan's arch rivals East Bengal are priced at 5/1 to win the title. Mohammedan Sporting are priced at 7/1 followed by Air India and SC Goa at 10/1.

United SC are tipped to just avoid the drop and will end 10th but are priced at 18/1 to win the league. New-comers Mumbai FC will face relegation but are priced at 20/1 to win the league and the bookies feel a mid table finish for Mumbai FC will be as good as a title victory. Finally Vasco are priced at 30/1.

Dempo - 1/1
Chrucil Bros 7/3
Mohun Bagan - 7/3
Mahindra United - 3/1
JCT - 3/1

Mid table? I'm sure you'll manage top six somehow. ;)

East Bengal will win the title in my opinion, despite the bookies.

Quality stuff this, Shan.

Yes I expect the title to be decided between East Bengal and the scum that is Mohun Bagan. Top six for Mumbai FC would be a job well done.

SBI 1-3 Mumbai FC
28th August, 2008

Despite Mumbai Football Club's comfortable 3-1 victory over minnows State Bank of India, neither fans nor pundits were over-impressed with the manner of victory, with the underdogs causing Mumbai FC far more problems then had been expected. The match was certainly not one for the purists with neither side able to keep errors out of their game.

Things did not get off to a good start for Mumbai FC as player Krishna Ahmed seized on an error from James Dissiramah to score an effort from the edge of the area. Mumbai FC skipper Abishek Yadav then managed to full one back for Mumbai FC after 8 minutes with a well timed close range finish.

Midfielder Riston Rodrigues then put the away side in front after 34 minutes with a screamer from the edge of the area. An error from Sandip Bhowmick then allowed experience midfielder Khalid Jamil to score a real poacher's effort.

Wahay, finally into Myplayandwin Cup before the season starts. Pre-season has been too easy and not really a challenge.

Good stuff, though, Shan.

I agree. Pre-season has been just too easy. Good work Shan :D

Mumbai FC 2-0 Mahindra United
9th September, 2008

Goals from Abhishek Yadav and Felix Aboagye gave Mumbai FC a shock win over rivals Mahindra United and booked their place in the finals of the Myplayandwin Cup.

Yaydav struck in the sixth minute when he collected a pass from Rodrigues and fired low past goalkeeper Arup Manoharan. Aboagye should have doubled their lead with a close-range header before nodding in from Rodrigues' free-kick. N.P Pradeep had Mahindra United's best chances but his long-range efforts were comfortably dealt with by Kalyan Chaubey.

Victory will be a massive lift to Mumbai FC, who will now face Al-Nassr a club from Saudi Arabia in the finals of the Myplayandwin Cup. The visiting team were gifted enough possession during the first half but time and time again failed to come up with the killer ball.

Their downfall was self-inflicted at the other end of the field where Mahindra United produced a display that could politely be described as inept and in the sixth minute Yadav took advantage of that. The Indian star striker, who has been in great form during the pre-season, controlled Rodrigues' pass from the right, turned then drilled his shot into Manoharan's bottom right.

Aboagye should have made it 2-0 but he could only head Rodrigues' clipped ball into the hands of Manoharan after finding himself inexplicably free eight yards out. The Ghana striker also had a 20-yard shot tipped over by the Indian shot-stopper, who then had to be alert to divert Kutty Mani's low effort round the post.

Chaubey had his hands kept warm on a cold cloudy day by the spirited Pradeep, who fired in a couple of shots from distance that the Mumbai keeper had to crouch down low to save. Ambekar's men, who looked edgy in the first half despite taking an early lead, were far more confident after the break although shots on goal were few and far between.

They always looked potent though and Kutty Mani, who along with Rodrigues was one of the stars of the show, came closest to doubling his side's lead when he whacked a 20-yarder that missed Mahindra United's right-hand upright by a foot. The result was still in doubt until the 85th minute when Aboagye leapt above the Mahindra defence to score his second in three games.
