I've not seen the heyday of the West Indian Cricket pace battery, but from what I've seen IMHO the greatest partnership was McGrath and Gillespie. I'd like to learn more on this, so discuss away!

Joel Garner and Malcolm Marshall were the greatest in their era. They were so feared by batsman.

You have to include the likes the of Thompson and Lillee but my vote would go to Trueman and Brian Statham.

Statham was the foil to Trueman's sabre and if you're talking about partnerships then you have to have a pair who complimented each other so perfectly.

If you are talking about partnership then Mcgrath and Gillespie must be up there. Gillespie making the batsman play and miss and Mcgrath managing to catch the edge with ruthless efficiency. Gillespie lacked the reputation to make batsman simply leave him alone and so batsman would play and miss and he would build pressure. With batsmen not sure whether to play or not, Mcgrath would come on the other end and catch the edge.

Wasim and Waqar.I have seen them bowling together.

Successful...yes, but according to footage I have seen, Garner could not have been faster than 80mph and got most of his wickets through batsmen being not used to his height, consequently, he would not succeed nearly as much these days and so the partnership was not 'great' since 'greatness' exceeds time barriers, in my opinion.

I don't know i just know mcGrath is a great opening bowler

then why post lol

who would you say were the greatest bowling partners (not just opening)

Lee and Warne were quite good in tandem
Harmison and Hoggard did well in 05
Shoaib and Asif in 06
Murali and Fernando
Vettori and Bond
Generally, spin at one end and high quality pacemen at the other is a very good combonation.

Wasim and Waqar were a better death bowling pair than opening bowling pair, but I see where your coming from. McGrath, Gillespie. Lillie, Thompson. Any of the WI Quartet of the time.

JAvagal Shrinath and Venketesh Prasad. :D

No doubt Waqar and Akram

Ambrose & Walsh (have 900+ wickets together), Holding & Roberts, Marshall & Garner, Wasim & Wakar, McGrath & Gillespie.

btw how fast was Gillespie?

Lillee and Thompson....DONALD AND POLLOCK!
