Harbajhan:Hogg will be punished - HAHAHA

Will Harbhajan even be playing in the Boxing Day Test himself? He shouldn't be talking...

I'm so disappointed that both Sreesanth and Harbhajan won't be playing on Boxing Day, hopefully Harbhajan is carrying the drinks at least, I need someone to vent at during the game.

Harbhajan is not even going to play a single test game in this series is what I feel. :p ( same thing happened in SA if I remember right ).

Was pretty average. I remember him making some shocking decisions.

Steve Waugh is a fantastic captain. I have seen three Australian skippers till now(i.e, from the day I started to watch cricket ) -- Taylor, Waugh and Ponting. Without any hesitations I would say he is better than the other two in my opinion.. that too, off the field, Steve Waugh is of great character which Ponting has to learn something from his previous skipper. :p Dominance without rude manner/aggression is always tough to achieve which Steve did it exceptionally well. He(Steve) is one of my all time favourites player as well. ( Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, Steve Waugh, N.Astle and Carl Hooper ). :)

Yeah Steve Waugh was a great gritty batsman. I don't think his tactics lead much to desire and I think Ponting's actually smarter because Waugh would've played Hogg against India >> in << Australia while by the looks of things, Ponting's going for 4 pacemen.

And from what I've heard, Steve Waugh was a very rude character on the field anyway and probably along side Warne, led the sledging which Australia is criticised for.

Actually Harbhajan only said it because Hogg is a pretty poor first class cricketer, if the comments by some of the Australian fans here is anything to go by.
Thats probaly due to the fact we are so used to the likes of Shane Warne. So basically when any other spinner has filled in for him they basically cant fill his shoes.

Its going to be interesting though. Personally im likeing the pace attack of Lee, Tait, Johnson and Bracken. But hey, 3 days left :)

He should play in Sydney, but Melbourne and Perth aren't too likely.

Well first up, captains have no say in the selection process, that is up to the selectors and sometimes the coach, to decide. Officially, it is none of the skipper's business.

As for Waugh sledging a lot, yes he did, but so does Ponting, and I have to say I like an aggressive captain, one who isn't afraid of a contest. Many of us will remember Waugh's battles with the West Indian pacemen, both batting and verbal.

As for Hogg's FC record, it is improving, but it's still not the sort of one you'd want for a test bowler, not by a long shot. His average is near 40 I think.

He did not mind sledging while batting also. He said to Saurav in historic Kokatta test "you have dropped the match" when he was dropped by Ganguly at short fine leg. But he did not last long was was out very soon after it.

But that happened when the same Steve Waugh was dropped by Gibbs in crucial semi finals of 99 Wcup where SA deserved to win that WCup. ( i.e, Gibbs dropped the WCup not just the match ) ;)

Well, anyways, lets not make this as a Steve Waugh thread... We will continue on topic :)

Well, even in SA, in capetown, where spinners did well and even after knowing that it was a turning track, we played helpless Munaf for Harbhajan if I remember that right. So, with Kumble in the squad, its expected to see spin twins together in action only in subcontinental conditions.

Hmm maybe. I would say it's probably due to the fact that his first class bowling average is 39.

I am guessing that Hogg will play in the first game, just so Ponting can have a chance to prove us wrong.
He will, I bet, rue that desicion ;)

If Harbajan plays, I can definitly see him being hit around by the aussies, but not half as bad as if hogg plays....The indian batting line up will end his test career....;)

To be honest unless the weather interferes, which it may do looking at the wild weather in the east coast at the moment, spin will play no roll for either team. But in Aus spin does sometimes bob up to bite you in the backside when you least expect it - take montys 5 for at the waca earlier this year. But don't discount Hogg - he rarely gets taken apart cause unlike Macgill or even Warne, he doesn't bowl many loose deliveries...a reason why he's been a major factor in us winning the last 2 world cups. He isn't going to bowl sides out like warne though...but this series will be won with pace, no doubt about it - if he can give our seemers a good rest and pick up the odd wicket here or there we know we have a massive advantage in the pace department....and Hoggy is a very decent batsman as well. The batting lineups look pretty equal, Aus having the home ground advantage especially since the wickets are back to their pacy old selves (unlike the last series where we served india slow lifeless wickets with a pace attack spearheaded by an immature Lee and goddam, Brad Williams...does he even get a state game these days?). India go into this with a good team, but you only have to look back to the 3-0 drubbing we gave them at home the previous time to know what they are up against when it comes to facing a fully fit australian unit....you can ask england about that one.

Or maybe it was said because they no aussies are thinking about playing him but are worried about hoggs poor record and poor test results from whenj he played ages ago.
And India know his bowling is better than his stats say and everyone struggles to pick his wrongun so there saying it to hope they dont play him.

Also aussie captain gets a huge say in who plays steve waugh always did and so does ponting.
Ponting has said he would like hogg to play and he will.
Also think ponting was the one who wanted symonds in the team last year.
selectors didnt

Continuing on the off-topic Steve Waugh theme, I think he was an average captain also. All-out aggression only works in rare situations, one of which being when you are blessed with two of the greatest bowlers of all-time in your team. He never made risky changes to try and turn a match, whereas Ponting will act on instinct and try to make a change to pick up a breakthrough.

Steve Waugh would stick a bowler on and get them to keep bowling at a batsman until you get him out. The only reason this was rarely found out was because he had such good bowlers, they would normally get the batsmen out. The only time I can remember this obviously coming unstuck was against India in that famous match where we enforced the follow-on and Dravid and Laxman hit us everywhere. Waugh had no answer as far as clever field placings and bowling changes go and let the partnership go for long enough to lose the match.

In that match Steve brought Ponting to bowl before Lunch session and he trapped Dravid with a bowl infront of wickets. It was close call and could have gone Aussie way. He tried many things but just had 2 blokes having best day of there career together.

When did you give us a 3-0 drubbing in India ? Maybe you were watching a different series.
It was 2-1 and the game at Chennai would have most probably gone to India and we needed just 190 runs on the fifth day which was rained off.

I was just about to write that....Infact sicne 2001, our record against australia is 4 wins, 4 losses. India is the only team to challenge them over the last 6-7 years
