Hello all. Loving the game but very clueless about cricket in general. Created a batter on the Kent team in career mode. So far having alot of fun. Just curious how the leagues work. I am playing in a 'County Cup' which is 4 day matches and I also am playing in something called P40 Cup which is shorter games. Is that how cricket leagues work? Kinda play in a bunch of different cups, etc? Interested to learn more and where the career mode can take you.

Thanks for any info! :D

they're just different competitions, yes it's how cricket leagues work: there's different formats of cricket (multi-day, unlimited overs per innings, 2 innings each; or one-day, limited overs - usually 20 or 50 per innings, 1 innings each) and each format has their own competitions.

Gotcha. Thanks for the reply!

So these different clubs just play in a variety of these throughout the year?

Also, is that how a young cricket player gets started? Playing for a county team? Are county teams (like Kent that my 16 year old batter is on) professional?

Thanks for the info and sorry for the questions. I live in North America so league play in sports over here are a bit different. Just trying to wrap my head around it.

Pretty much: there are three leagues in England and Australia, one for each form of the game. Its a little more complex in Australia since you have separate franchises for the Big Bash League that are a lot more similar to the various American major sports, but those differences aren't modelled in this game bar the fact that you have a separate team for T20 cricket in Australia.

County teams are professional, although salaries are a lot lower than is common. My understanding is that in reality players are scouted at a lower level playing for clubs and (usually private) schools by the counties who'll sign then to play Second XI cricket, the game kind of snips that bit out sadly. I could go into greater detail but I don't know if I need to, I want to keep this concise... The big bucks are in the Twenty20 competitions like the above mentioned Big Bash League and the Indian Premier League where the big players are paid huge amounts to play what amounts to a month of Cricket. Domestic Cricket is very... unique among sports, the main interest is in international cricket for fans.

Always nice to have people from across the Atlantic get into the game: Cricket isn't exactly a mass game in Scotland either...

....wearing skirts and throwing logs is the mass game in Scotland.

A hot mass.

...you've been a great crowd tonight, live music from blocker and bluesdaves coming up next...

Hehe thanks guys! All good info! Love this game!

Another question or two....are their playoffs in each cup? I am playing in the English County Cup, P40 Cup and T20 Cup. Now the T20 one seems to be over, but no winner was declared, is there a playoff later on or is it whoever is in first after all the matches is the winner? Just curious as in the County Cup my team is in a real battle for first, wondering how it works once all the matches are done.

Also, I noticed I have become a regluare member of a bunch of Aussie leagues...what does this mean? Do I go play in Australia later on?

Thanks for any info!

If the T20 cup ends like that it means you didn't make the finals (play offs, essentially)[DOUBLEPOST=1445282365][/DOUBLEPOST]And yes it will mean you have contracts to play for Australian teams
