Hints and tips for guitar beginner

I've pretty much conquered the F Chord now - still a bit hit and miss during songs, but when played in isolation, it's fine and getting better all the time during songs as well. Took a few months - around three - is that a lot to nail the F Chord?

Depends how often you play. If you can play the f chord cleanly and quickly you are out of the beginners phase!

Steve, you should know now that you do things at your own pace The F chord is a difficult one to do, easy when its not in the middle of something, but throw it in there when you're in the middle of a song, and it can cause trouble. Its all about stretching your fingers and getting your brain to recognise the routine.

I'm being taken outside the comfort zone of the first five frets now - it was barre chords all the way today. Things are really moving on.

Agreed. Checked a few of his covers, Beat It just doesn't sound complete.

Fantastic, that or Money for Nothing would sound incredible I imagine.

Brothers In Arms would be epic as well. Sometimes I wish I played guitar, seems a bit too much of an effort to learn it though seeing as I already know one instrument and I can't really be fussed to go through the entire learning process again.

Right! Finally managed to get a video up of my playing! this is a spontaneous improvisation around the song "Stairway to Heaven".

Sound quality isn't much good let alone the playing!
