How are you doing in your career?

What did you choose for your career player?

Folks have following questions about career mode and career player...
Yeah, I've been wondering how the batting points work.

With the bowling - if you bowl a better than average over, it seems like the skill that you did the best with in that over is improved. So I think that might carry over to batting - it might be after x number of well timed shots you get a plus point, but it would go to what you did the most of to earn it. As such, consecutive back foot shots would probably be needed to skill up in that area.

I see the occasional +2 for batting - which seems to be a specific good shot one. Those would be given to the specific skill you're using 'best'.

I have had a few back foot points, but most of mine are front foot and straight bat, but then I'm a tail end batsman and that's basically all I do anyway.

As for your player, go into the Academy section, and 'Players' and see if you appear under 'my players'.

When you make a new career, there's a button for 'use player from academy' which I think is :pss: - which lists every player in the game, regardless of team.

Been playing now for a week on my PS3. finally getting used to it. Scoring runs now. I hope that there is patch soon out for A1 bowling. Need A1 to bowl more on off stumps. Also i still feel the fielders take some ridiculious catches !! looks like everyone is a Jonty Rhodes. Still having a little hard time playing spinners . Any suggestions ???

Play late to spinners and always off the front foot. If the ball is outside off, play cover drive, else flick the ball to the leg side Wait until the ball is almost at you... I enjoy spinners myself... get a lot of runs off them and medium pacers.

On topic, I made yet another career 47 in the 4 day game, missing my 50 once again by 3 runs (got out to a fast medium bowler bowling a bouncer, which I correctly anticipated and hooked but the delivery was slower than normal and it got my inside edge and bowled).

My average is slowly creeping up in all formats from the low single digit towards 10 (touching 7-8 now).

Yes, definitely prefer the longer format myself.

The problem I'm facing as a pure batsman is that no matter what I do, or what shots I play, the skills only seem to improve for 'front foot' and 'on side' skills. Could it be due to the fact I chose 'front foot' as my strength when I created my career player? But it does seem odd that two consecutive back foot shots through the off side should result in 'on side' or 'front foot' skill increase.

And thanks for the info on career player and its location in academy. I hope playing two careers at the same time with the same career player doesn't have an adverse impact.

I noticed that too. Seems to be a bug in the points system. I sometimes get a +1 skill when I get hit on the helmet playing a front foot shot premeditatively to a faster bowler..

MY Career Average has picked up to around 25 now .. i wonder when do you actually get started to get picked up for your international side.....has anyone been picked yet?

Chose to be a bowler and gradually learn how to bat. Bowling his fun, I only have trouble with leftie's. Otherwise I have an average 11 for this season, got 11 wickets in the last name and somehow didn't get MotM, bit disappointed haha, trying to build up the ranking as much as possible.

So my first career mode wicket against me while batting was when I hit straight into the helmet of the silly mid off fielder; it bounced off and was caught by the bowler...

An interesting observation on career mode if you play as a specialist batsman... your team's chances are inversely proportional to your performance, i.e. if you do well as a batsman the more likely is your team to lose, or not win. This is a direct correlation of AI batsmen not doing too well when they "bat" in the game as opposed to when they are simulated.

As an example, I play as a no. 3 batsman and my three top scores in various formats and the team results are as follows...

FC - HS of 107 and result a draw. Thankfully we led by more than 150 after the 1st innings else we could have lost the game.

List A - HS of 71 and result a loss.

T20 - HS of 88* (54 balls) and result a loss and I ended up being MOTM.

The problem I've seen is that the more you bat, the more your peers have to bat along with you and they keep on getting out, or play like dolts in shorter formats. Nearly every time I get a decent score there's a sort of collapse and I see my batting partners trudge back to the pavilion. In shorter formats, your batting partner hogs the strike and plays out dots. E.g., in th T20 where I scored unbeaten 88 the run rate for the most part was more than 10 but as wkts started falling (which happens), my batting partners started playing dots and I was stuck at non-striker's end for a long time resulting in us getting a score of 170 odd when 200+ was on the cards.

Conversely, when I fail I silulate to career player so rest of the innings is simulated and lo and behold! The other batsmen suddenly start scoring for fun. You suddenly see Shaun Marsh churn out 150+ for Western Warriors or Khwaja thwack a 50 ball 90 for Sydney Thunders. But when you are batting alongside they do none of that :(

I'm hoping the improved AI batting, once it's patched in, will result in AI batting better alongside you and your significant contributions will actually help in your team winning. Thankfully I've Geoff Boycott's attitude towards batting and team be damned as long as I can increase my batting average, which is very un-Boycottesque at the moment :D

@BigAntStudios, do look into making AI batting solid as it does have an impact on career mode as well. Earlier I thought that wouldn't be the case but unfortunately my experience has proven otherwise :(

My sample size is really small but the couple of matches I have played, I contributed significantly in our team's victories.

Started a Batsmen career.

First innings I was run out for 13.

Was put back in with us at 92/2 needing 117 to win. My partners crumbled after a few overs and we were 116/5. Me and Foster then set up a partnership to see us through 209/5.

Scored 37 off 57 myself. Foster with 60 off 57. Partnership of 93.

Initially I thought it was coincidence but after playing bunch of games across multiple formats, a pattern emerges. It can't be coincidence every time my career batsman spends time in the middle and scores a few, the other batsmen batting in the middle throw their wkts away the same way they do when you are bowling to them. Definitely something to look into.

I created a player in academy and added him to the custom team I created. Can I use the same player when starting a new career. If so what about his skills will that reduce to the default career level or will it remian the same.

Skill level should reset in the career mode. After all what's the point of starting a "career" when your player already has a high level of skill? IMO career mode will use the created player for likeness but rest of the things will remain, or default to, how they are at the start of a career.
