No, though you will get firmware updates. Patches for games, etc. It is negligible, unless you are on archaic packages.

Instead of starting a new thread, I'll ask here:

Are there any games where you can play online with PC and play against a PS3 user, or vice versa?

Nope. I don't believe any on-line games allow console>pc or PS3>360.

No there different servers. Just to think, a game such as Call of Duty:World at War has 3 main servers for each platform!

Thanks. That's a real shame, could've played against all sorts of friends if that was possible: quite a few have PS3s, but not PCs powerful enough for the latest games.
